A2 yacht

A2 during her maiden voyage

In February 2011, we reported the sale of the 42.3 metre motor yacht Masquerade of Sole, a classic Feadship designed by De Voogt and built in 1983. The yacht was immediately shipped to the Pendennis facility for an extensive refit lasting more than a year. Given a new lease of life the yacht is now back on the water with a new design and a new name – A2.

In the process of her long refit the yacht’s interior was completely removed, leaving only the hull and the superstructure intact. Naval architects BMT Nigel Gee worked closely with Pendennis’ in-house team on the exterior, which included lengthening the hull to 47m and modifying the stern. The superstructure was also modified to extend the bridge deck and create a full-beam master suite on the main deck.

The interior layout was changed and given a new contemporary design by New York based Peter Marino Architect. It accommodates 10 guests in five cabins, including the new full-beam master and four double cabins on the lower deck.

Before and after…

On the technical side, the engine room was rebuilt and all equipment, systems and technologies were modernised. Her performance was optimised in line with her new length, giving her an increased cruising speed of 14 knots (12 knots before refit) and range.

Unrecognisable now as Masquerade of Sole, it was the new yacht A2 that left Pendennis in early July.
