ISA's 66m Granturismo build continues apace

1 February 2013

Boat International has toured the build of the sleek, outdoor-focused 66m Granturismo at the ISA yard in Ancona, Italy.

The steel and aluminium displacement yacht is one of two from the range under construction – a 43m hull lies nearby. Both have exterior styling by Andrea Vallicelli and naval architecture by ISA.

‘It’s a style of boat that gives advantage to life outside,’ says Marcello Maggi, president of sales and marketing at the yard. ‘We spend a lot of time outside – especially in the Med.’

But the Granturismo design does not achieve extra deck space by stacking the decks. ‘There is not the piled-up effect – one layer after the other,’ says Maggi. ‘The philosophy of the whole concept is to guarantee the owner the space and comfort you would expect, but not necessarily by pushing big saloons.’

The long main aft deck features a swimming pool with a glass side aft, facing the transom platform.

Forward, where one might expect a main saloon, is a dining saloon with floor-to-ceiling windows that open fully on to the aft deck, giving it an outdoor feeling.

Forward in the same space is the main saloon, a full-beam (11m) area with windows that end only a few inches from the floor. Forward, past the starboard lobby with lift, lies the huge master suite.

On the upper deck, interior space has been limited to a modest cinema/saloon, plus the captain’s cabin, pantries and bridge forward. The result is an enormous aft deck and a foredeck with touch-and-go helipad. The sundeck above will have a glass gym for panoramic views.

The lower deck features a beauty salon and just three guest cabins: ‘It’s a big boat, but used intimately,’ says Maggi. Routing has been carefully considered and a crew tunnel runs the length of the boat under the lower deck, so that equipment can be inspected without going through guest areas.

Interior design is by Alberto Pinto and the yacht will have a trans-Pacific range. Delivery is expected in summer next year.
