Aeronautiq's 55m superyacht design concept

Believe it or not, the most interesting thing about this concept from Austrian design firm Aeronautiq isn't its extraordinary amount of glazing, axe bow or offset superstructure.

Probably unique for a 55 metre superyacht, Vice Versa has has been designed with an owner's art gallery taking up the full 12 metre beam, complete with vaulted ceiling and sweeping double staircase.

The spectacular gallery leads on to the owner's private quarters, but also acts as a focal point on the boat, 'encouraging social interaction', according to its designers.

The main living areas include an open-plan lounge and dining room divided by a display cabinet and aquarium, all watched over by the owner's favourite painting by Fritz Martinz on the back wall.

Levels of light throughout should be impressive thanks to the wraparound superstructure glazing, providing a strong monotonal contrast inspired by another artist, Gerhard Gutruf.

Guests will be able to walk around the entire main deck and Vice Versa's flybridge, complete with sunbeds and spa tub, is roomy enough for all 12 people on board. The owner has a separate private balcony with seating and sunbeds.

'What sets apart from similar length yachts is the specifically designed art gallery, which will proudly exhibit art from the owner's personal collection and act as a social meeting point,' said Aeronautiq's Olivier Dorrell.

'This is certainly not a case of art for art's sake, as it is a yacht first and foremost but I believe we have achieved a harmonious balance. The project evolved from a theme exploration into what you see, which leaves an interested party or shipyard the opportunity to express their own artistic tastes and options in regards to power units and systems.'
