Castagnola launches wooden superyacht Angra Too

26 November 2014

Italian builder Castagnola has launched its new flagship, a 38 metre motor yacht built, unusually, in wood and fibreglass.

Angra Too, the first Castagnola 38 WJ, hit the water at their facility in Lavagna, where the hull was constructed using a triple planking method, combined with fiberglass to waterproof it and improve strength. Exterior and interior design is by Andrea Borzelli & Berta Architetti, while naval architecture and engineering is by Francesco Rogantin Naval Architect & Marine Engineer. Giovanni Castagnola collaborated on both naval architecture and exterior design.

The aft deck features a dining area protected by the flybridge deck, and leads down, via two staircases, to the large aft swimming platform. The flybridge deck will be furnished with a few flexible elements that can be rearranged according to need. Features here include two extendable sunbeds, bar, table for twelve and sofas. Downstairs the main saloon has a wet bar, while amidships is a single guest cabin, plus a pantry and large galley that are well-connected to the crew area.

The forward end of the deck is dedicated to the owner’s accommodation, with a full beam cabin, two en suites, desk and walk-in wardrobe. There are four en suite guest cabins on the lower deck, plus a crew mess for up to seven crew. A gym is located between the crew and the guest area.

Angra Too is powered by three Diesel engines MTU 12 V2000 M94, offering 1432 kW each, coupled to three waterjets KAMEWA 56A3. She is expected to achieve a 28 knot cruising speed and a 31 knot top speed.
