The new 50-metre Vitruvius superyacht project is the latest collaboration between yacht designer Philippe Briand's Vitruvius Yachts and the Picchiotti Shipyard.
Vitruvius Yachts and Picchiotti, owned by Perini Navi Group, joined forces to launch the first Picchiottic Vitruvius motor yacht, 50-metre Exuma, in 2010. The now iconic yacht Exuma was named Motor Yacht of the Year at the 2011 World Superyacht Awards. Next up in the line came the Picchiotti Vitruvius 55.7-metre superyacht Galileo G, launched in 2011, and most recently the 73-metre flagship Grace E was delivered.
Founded by award-winning superyacht designer Philippe Briand, each design by Vitruvius Yachts is based on the principle of efficiency, sustainability and robustness and are built in steel and aluminium. The new four-deck, 50m Vitruvius design is based on Exuma's hull form, with low resistance and optimised for performance. In keeping with Picchiotti Vitruvius series, the new 50m puts a priority on eco-friendly design and efficiency. The new design will boast 25 per cent less fuel consumption and reduced Co2 emissions than an average yacht of the same size, and she will have a transatlantic-plus range of 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots.
While the new yacht's volume is comparable to Exuma's, both coming in at 499GT, the latest 50m Vitruvius uses this space completely differently. The brief called for a yacht more suitable for cruising rather than long-range exploration like Exuma. As such, the new layout is roomier with more space devoted to accommodations. The main deck hosts the owner's suite as well as two large guest staterooms. Two additional guest cabins are found below, as well as the quarters for seven crew members. The outdoor living areas are also twice as large as Exuma's and include a large upper terrace, sun deck with Jacuzzi and lounge area on the foredeck.
