Design brief announced for the Young Designer of the Year Award

The task for the Young Designer of the Year Award 2016, sponsored by Oceanco, has been revealed and registration has now opened for entries.

This year, students and trainee designers have been asked to produce designs for a realistic, but imaginary, client: an Italian fashion designer who wants to sell her holiday home in Porto Fino and build a superyacht instead. The task is very specific, but leaves plenty of scope for creativity.

Presented during the ShowBoats Design Awards in the inspiring setting of Kitzbühel, Austria, the winner of the Young Designer of the Year award will be awarded with a gold Neptune trophy and a €5,000 cash prize. The coveted Neptune has quickly become a symbol of pride and distinction for the industry’s design professionals and provides the winner with the unique opportunity to receive critical acclaim in front of an international audience of superyacht owners, designers and industry leaders, and network among the most influential players in the yachting industry.

Timur Bozca, last year's winner of the Young Designer of the Year Award

The 2015 Young Designer of the Year Award went to Timur Bozca for his outstanding Project Cauta design. "The ShowBoats Design Awards recognise and award ideals of excellence and forward-looking," Bozca said. "Accordingly, it afforded me to try some new ideas. I did not just want to make another yacht, but to make the yacht which can give new perspective to the yachting world. To win this award is a great pleasure, I am so honoured to have my project recognised based on these high standards.”

All six finalists, chosen by an esteemed panel of practising yacht designers, are invited to attend the awards and will benefit from a host of incredible opportunities aimed at advancing their early design careers. They will receive complimentary access to the 2016 edition of the Superyacht Design Symposium and ShowBoats Design Awards and an all-expenses paid visit to Oceanco’s shipyard in The Netherlands in May. Those who don't make the final stages will have the opportunity to purchase a special Young Designers discounted ticket.
