InterContinental Carlton Cannes – in French Kiss (1995)

As the world’s film industry turns it attention towards Cannes Film Festival, find out what movies have been shot where in the city .

French Kiss (1995)

This romcom stars Meg Ryan stars alongside Kevin Kline. A majority of the start of the film was shot in Paris but the end of the film features the InterContinental Carlton in Cannes.

The 343-room luxury hotel built in 1911 and is ideally located for the Film Festival on the Boulevard de La Croisette. It also has its own exclusive beach restaurant and pier offering a host of water sports.

Cannes-Mandelieu Airport – in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)

Michael Caine and Steve Martin star as conmen Lawrence Jamieson and Freddy Benson who are both vying for the attention of one lady in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

The film uses various locations in the French Riviera and the fictional Beaumont-sur-Mer Airport is actually Cannes-Mandelieu Airport in Cannes.

The airport is a popular gateway for the Cote d'Azur region and has a dedicated private jet terminal.

Hotel Majestic – in The Day of the Jackal (1973)

This Anglo-French thriller film is based on the 1971 novel The Day of the Jackal. The film is based on a professional assassin, Jackal, who has been hired to assassinate French president Charles de Gaulle. During the film Jeckel visits the Hotel Majestic in Cannes where he discovers that his cover has been blown and enjoys an eye wateringly expensive cup of coffee.

The hotel is located at La Croisette in Cannes, 121 yards from Palais des Festivals and the old port. It has a casino and an outdoor pool with a furnished terrace.

Château de la Croix-des-Gardes – in To catch a thief (1955)

This romantic thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock features Cary Grant a retired jewel thief who is meant to be a reformed character now living in the French Riviera.

The Château de la Croix-des-Gardes, located at 145 Boulevard Leader, was used as the "Sanford Villa" in the film but the entrance to the villa was actualy filmed at a separate location over 20km away. Regarded as a “jewel of the French Riviera” The mansion was built in 1919 overlooking Cannes. It has a large infinity swimming pool that drops 25m into the sea beneath it and is surrounded by gardens

Unfortunately you can't visit the château itself, since it's a private residence, but the beautiful gardens of la Croix-des-Gardes offer some pleasant views.

Cannes Film Festival – in Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007)

This British comedy see’s Mr Bean, played by Rowan Atkinson, accidently become involved in the Cannes Film Festival before eventually finding his preferred destination — the beach.

Cannes Film Festival director Gilles Jacob is reportedly a fan of Mr. Bean and as result allowed scenes to be shot on the red carpet.

However, the beach where the film ends with Mr Bean singing “La Mer” is actually 40km away at Villefranche-sur-Mer.
