Musto Jetto deck shoes

Every sailor should have a good pair of boat shoes in his or her collection. They are an undisputed yachting wardrobe essential but how do you sort the merely stylish from those that will prove their worth when your sailing superyacht is thundering around a regatta course and heeling at an awe-inspiring angle?

To help you out Boat International took a pair of deck shoes from four of the most popular brands to be put through their paces at the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta and Rendezvous. During the three-day event, the shoes were tested on land and on an array of boats ranging from RIBs and Bradleys to both sailing and motor superyachts. Here's how they got on...

Musto Jetto deck shoes

Style: Probably the most classic boat shoe in our test, Musto's brown leather deck shoes certainly look the part - even if you're not the most experienced sailor. The contrast white stitching is a nice touch and the understated shade means they go with almost everything.

Comfort: Musto's Jetto deck shoes were designed in collaboration with Clark's giving them the added benefit of the brand's patented underfoot cushioning. This combined with supple leather and ties long enough to allow you to adjust tightness means they can't be faulted when it comes to comfort.

On land: Regattas often take place in warm climates and, while it is key that they offer sturdy support while sailing, it's also important that deck shoe designs bear in mind the practicalities of hours-long wear in hot countries. Musto's deck shoes feature Agion, an antimicrobial that prevents the growth of bacteria and fungi. It may not be the sexiest aspect of this shoe but it's one that makes them perfect for sailors and land-based tourists alike.

At sea: As you would expect of a professional sailing wear brand like Musto, a lot of thought has gone in to making its boat shoes as effective on deck as possible. The Jetto features AquaDX, a unique array of channels concealed in the shoe to prevent aquaplaning, slipping and sliding while moving around the yacht. Take it from us - it works.
