Ioanna Marinopoulous

History

Greek-born superyacht designer Ioanna Marinopolous chose to study design having shown tendencies throughout her childhood and adolescence for minor interior makeovers. Based in Miami, and having focused on interior design – particularly for private residences – for the last 15 years, Marinopolous first encountered yacht design when her husband bought his first yacht. In fact, she realised that she wanted to do more than just change the interior décor, also getting the urge to make styling changes, and in particular to create bigger windows.

After enjoying several opportunities to try her hand at yacht interior design through her husband’s yachts, her first yacht interior client came in 1999. Since then, she has taken on more yacht projects and has actively progressed from working with exterior designers to proposing her own exterior style changes.

Notable yachts

Among several yachts that Marinopolous has worked on, it was the 36.5 metre Tecnomar Velvet 36 Doubleshot that really shot her to attention, garnering wide acclaim not only for the modern art deco interior style and innovative layout, but also for the large, restyled windows and exterior styling changes, for which the yard left her to work with RINA for classification agreement.

Specialisations

While her main focus remains residential and interior design, Marinopolous has taken on further yacht interior and exterior projects, and is currently working on the design of yacht Doubleshot II. The original 2011 yacht Doubleshot was a finalist in the 2012 World Superyacht Awards.
