The sale of the 30.48 metre motor yacht Sea Fox by Gilman Yachts marks a record number of 400 superyachts sold so far in 2014.

This far outstrips the 355 sales in 2013, itself a record year and is the highest number of sales since the financial meltdown of 2008. In September we published the fact that 300 yachts were sold and predicted a strong fourth quarter, and so it has proved, with a number of notable sales recorded.

The largest yacht sold in quarter four was the 85.6 metre Derecktor motor yacht Cakewalk, jointly listed for sale by Burgess with Merle Wood and sold by Burgess. Another notable sale was Lurssen's 60 metre Solemates, listed for sale by Luxury Yacht Group with Merle Wood & Associates representing the buyer.

A particularly welcome aspect of the fourth quarter sales was the number of sailing yachts sold, headed by 56 metre Perini Navi yacht Salute, offered for sale by Burgess and Perini Navi USA while Camper & Nicholsons found the buyer. In fact, Camper & Nicholsons acted for the seller of the 42 metre Jongert sailing yacht Passe Partout with dahm international introducing the buyer.
