On trend: 6 new yachts with grey hulls spotted at Cannes

Storm

Move over blue hulls, because this year at the Cannes boat show, the cool colour of grey seems to be the hottest hull colour of the season – here are six new yachts that show it off.

The newly launched Cantiere delle Marche Darwin 107 explorer yacht, Storm, is the Italian yard's biggest yacht yet. It also brandishes a grey hull that adds to her aggressive expedition yacht styling. Built for an British owner, her interior resembles a stately English countryside retreat. She is intended for family cruising, and is baby proofed to ensure safe cruising for the little ones.

Antheya III

The first Princess 35M, named Antheya III, shows off her cool grey paint job against this beautiful backdrop. The newly delivered Princess 35M Antheya III debuted at the Cannes boat show.

As it was the first 35M, her owner – a repeat Princess client – was able to collaborate with the UK builder on the design of his yacht and was very hands-on during the build. These owner-led influences include everything from cleverly hidden storage spaces to the “flight pattern” design on the dining room wall, which will now be standard on Princess 35M yachts.

Santa Maria T

Long gone are the days of white hull wedding cake boats being all you see. Just take the new Van der Valk Continental Yachts' flagship, Santa Maria T. This 35 metre has a military inspired grey hull and stands out with an enormous stateroom that takes over 50 per cent of the living area on the lower deck.

Other big boat features seen on Van der Valk's largest expedition yacht yet include an enormous engine room, generous crew quarters with a full kitchen and mess and spacious guest accommodations. Santa Maria T's tough grey hull colour belies the fanciful, art nouveau interior styling, which features free standing antique style furnishings and replicas of Dutch masterpiece paintings.

Blue Belly

Even catamarans have gotten in on the grey hull colour trend seen at the Cannes boat show. Sunreef's Blue Belly has a light grey hull, which is complemented by an airy, beach chic interior motif and a huge, open plan saloon – the first seen on this model.

Sunreef Yachts launched the power catamaran Blue Belly in June this year. The design of the Sunreef 70 was conceived by famed Swiss sailor Laurent Bourgnon, who went missing in French Polynesia this summer after a diving trip.

Mr. Grey

Want further proof grey is the hot hull colour of the season? Check out this very aptly named superyacht tender, Mr. Grey, from Wajer & Wajer. No "red room" here though, just plenty of room to stretch out on the sun pads and catch some sun.

The Wajer Osprey 38 can be customised to suit her owner, making use of teak and mahogany details. The Dutch builder Wajer & Wajer is known for experimenting with bold colours on its tenders, like the new red hull Wajer 38S, that will inspire you to get out on the water.
