Top 10 superyachts launched in 2011

As 2011 draws to a close, we take a look at some of the highlights from the last twelve months, starting with the largest superyachts to hit the water.

The total length of the top 10 superyachts launched this year (867m) is less than those in 2010 (938m), but the pedigree remains the same with the established Dutch and German shipyards dominating once more. Indeed, it has been a stellar year for Feadship, which has no less than three superb projects in the top 10. But the largest yacht to be launched in 2011 comes from the Middle East...

Yas | 141m | ADM Shipyards

Yas was launched by ADM Shipyards in November 2011. Previousy known as Swift 141, she is based on the hull of a former Dutch-built navy frigate launched in 1977. Designed by Jacques Pierrejean, her new superstructure is the largest built in composite, creating a real cathedral of glass. When she is delivered in 2012, Yas will be the 6th largest yacht in the world. Read more about the launch of Yas

Vava II

96m | Devonport

Vava II was launched by Devonport in mid-September, and is the largest private yacht ever built in the UK. Currently undergoing sea trials, this 96m superyacht designed by Redman Whiteley Dixon and Rémi Tessier will be delivered in early 2012.

Fountainhead

87.78m | Feadship - De Vries

Launched in May, Fountainhead is the third Feadship XL and the sister ship of Larry Ellison's Musashi, launched last year. Both yachts share the same design from De Voogt and Sinot Design, and they are the flagships of the Dutch yard.

Valerie

Previously known by her project name of Firebird, Valerie was designed by Espen Oeino and Reymond Langton.

Air

81m | Feadship - De Vries

Air is one of the most elegant and original yachts launched this year. Designed by De Voogt and Rémi Tessier, notable features include a pool on the foredeck, a fully certified helipad and a matte black hull. Air is currently available for charter. Read more

Amaryllis

Amaryllis was launched by Abeking & Rasmussen in August and delivered in November. She is a sister ship of Eminence, C2 and Titan.

Tango

77.7m | Feadship - Van Lent

Tango is the first Feadship to be designed by Eidsgaard, and she has a unique layout with an entirely enclosed main deck. Powered by four 2,320kW MTU engines, she can reach the impressive top speed of 22 knots. Read more

New Horizon

New Horizon was launched by Trinity in November, with delivery scheduled for Spring 2012. She's the yard's new flagship, and the sixth largest yacht ever built by an American Yard. Read more

Mogambo

Mogambo's smooth lines are the work of London-based Reymond Langton Design, which is also responsible for her interior. Although she is scheduled for delivery before the end of the year, it seems that she will remain in Germany until early 2012.

Graffiti

Graffiti is the sister of Mogambo (above). Their beautiful design makes them two of the sleekest yachts to be launched in 2011. Graffiti is scheduled for delivery during the first quarter of 2012.
