6 days in Northern Greece discovering Halkidiki on a superyacht

Skiathos

Shaped like Poseidon’s trident extending into the Aegean Sea, visit Halkidiki this summer for pristine beaches, sheltered bays and pine covered shores. Local expert Plevritis Christos from Sani Marina reveals how best to experience this intricate coastline while enjoying gourmet dining and boutique shopping.

Day 1: Skiathos

Meet your yacht and start your journey towards the forested peninsula on the island of Skiathos. The island, along with its neighbour Skopelos, was used as a filming location for the Hollywood film Mamma Mia, making it one of the top movie locations to visit on a luxury yacht. The duo offer the perfect backdrop for lunch on board: whitewashed villages, thick verdant forests and azure waters.

Thessaloniki

Cruise overnight to Thessaloniki and spend the day exploring Greece’s second largest city, which is the capital of Macedonia. As well as monuments and museums to thrill history lovers, the thriving city has great shopping, a buzzing café society and vibrant nightlife.

Sani Marina

Moor at Sani Marina, which is set at the heart of the luxurious 1,000 acre Sani Resort. Time your trip with the Sani Gourmet festival (which takes place annually each June) where young Michelin-starred chefs showcase the best of modern cuisine. Burn off the calories at the state- of-the-art sports centre at Sani Beach, or relax at the D Spa at Sani Dunes, one of the best spas in the Mediterranean.

Afytos

Make your way around the peninsula, the first prong of Poseidon’s trident, to the picturesque village of Afytos, which is famous for having been mentioned in the texts of Aristotle. Wander the cobbled streets and take in the views across the Toroneos Gulf.

Vourvourou Bay

Head to Diaporos Island in Vourvourou Bay and snorkel or canoe to explore the secluded coves of the Blue Lagoon, surrounded by pine trees and sandy beaches. Afterwards enjoy a quiet night on board indulging in Greek delicacies and stargazing.

Ammouliani Island

Start your final day at Ammouliani Island and wander among the traditional houses – see fishermen’s nets laid out in courtyards for drying, small vegetable gardens and flower beds in full bloom. Then either take the tender back to the mainland and enjoy the scenic drive to Thessaloniki Airport or set your course for Athens.
