A long weekend in Marbella away from your superyacht

AM

You wouldn’t initially think of Marbella as a stop to include on a trip around the southern coastline of Spain, but there’s far more to this charming city than you might expect. If you’re heading to Gibraltar and then out to the Caribbean, it’s the ideal spot for peace and quiet away from all the action and the luxurious Marbella Club Hotel is the perfect place to find it.

Day One: AM

Berths for luxury yachts up to 50 metres are available in Puerto Banús, which is a 15 minute drive from the Marbella Club Hotel. While Puerto Banús certainly has its own party town reputation, the Marbella Club is the perfect place to reconnect with land for a few days.

Moor up and have your chauffeur drive you straight to the Marbella Club Hotel where you can settle in at the Villa del Mar, the hotel’s private six-bedroom, 6,200 square metre property. Tucked away behind large rustic gates, this VIP hideaway features a stunning blend of Andalusian architecture with luxurious contemporary accents. Its private landscaped gardens, pools, Jacuzzi, hammam, seven fireplaces and 24-hour butler are just a few of the perks of staying in this exclusive location.

PM

If you’re keen to go further than mere relaxation you can check in with the on site nutritionist to discuss a strategy for your mini-break. The hotel offers four plans with a variety of focuses: beauty, emotional rebalance, performance and body rebalance.

Afterwards, enjoy a sumptuous candlelit dinner at the house or venture out to The Grill restaurant, the hotel’s culinary triumph and one of the best restaurants in the Mediterranean. A traditional menu with an indulgent game offering during hunting season, enjoy classic seafood plates or treat yourself to the likes of grilled veal, cheese soufflé, warm duck Foie Gras and a plethora of rich desserts. Thanks to the hotel’s wellness programmes, a healthy menu brimming with innovative dishes is also available.

AM

After a personal training session and a private breakfast in the villa, head up to the Marbella Club Golf Resort. This 18-hole course is a 20-minute drive from the hotel and offers incredible views out to Gibraltar.

Stay in the clubhouse for a five star lunch of traditional Spanish delicacies such as jamón, seafood medleys and grilled fish while looking out over the beautifully designed course and the mountains beyond.

PM

Head back to the hotel in your private car for an afternoon of pampering at the Thalasso Spa, one of the best in the Mediterranean. Whether you’re taking advantage of one of the hotel’s comprehensive wellness programmes or simply looking to unwind, the focus on Thalasso therapy (the use of seawater for health and relaxation) means you can indulge in a Vichy shower or a water-jet bath before your treatment. The spa offers everything from chiropody and physiotherapy to anti jet-lag treatments and traditional Al-Andalus rituals.

In the evening head into Marbella’s Old Town for an authentic tapas-hopping experience — explore the narrow streets and find some hidden gems offering Serrano ham, squid, chorizo and whitebait.

AM

Get up early and take a car over to the Marbella Club Equestrian Centre. Enjoy a gentle hack into the lofty hills and take in some stunning views of the region. Lessons for all ages and abilities are available and are taught in one of the centre's professional rings.

Return to the villa for a private lunch by the pool, or take a break from the midday sun by heading inside to watch a movie either in the Jacuzzi or in one of the elegant and comfortable living rooms.

PM

Spend the afternoon relaxing or request a special trip up into the mountains to visit the olive groves. After an exclusive olive oil tasting, explore the groves and take in some of the best views Marbella has to offer. Opt for a candlelit dinner back at the hotel or head to the MC café for a more informal meal at the end of a busy day. Dine on a variety of western favourites with healthy options available for those taking part in a wellness programme.

Afterwards, head to one of the best bars in the Mediterranean - the renowned Champagne Room - for a glass of bubbly and enjoy a variety of talented lounge singers. You might even be treated to a story from the famous Count Rudi, the longest-serving member of hotel staff, who spent many years entertaining royal and celebrity guests.

AM

Enjoy a morning yoga session or a leisurely tennis lesson or simply spend your last morning enjoying breakfast on the beach. Head to the spa for a warming body wrap and massage before your chauffeur takes you back to your superyacht for your onward journey.
