The most romantic beaches to visit by superyacht

Whether you're cruising the Caribbean or the Mediterranean, make your date night one to remember with our guide to the world's most romantic beaches to visit by yacht.

Big Beach

Maui, Hawaii

A part of the allure of Maui's Big Beach, or Oneloa Beach its local name, is that it is located in one of the most remote areas of the island, in the undeveloped Makena State Park. The beach, as the name suggests, is one of the largest, approximately 1.5 miles of golden sand, lapped by the turquoise waters of the Pacific.

It lies on the southwest coast of Maui. Beware though, just over the hill is its little sister, Little Beach. Little Beach is the island's most famous nudist beach. Although illegal, the authorities generally turn a blind eye. Whichever of the two beaches you choose, the waters will be welcoming, the sand will be pristine and the view from the rocks that separate the two beaches is truly breathtaking.

Red Beach

Santorini, Greece

Nothing says romance quite like the colour red, so if you're in the Greek Islands make sure to surprise your date with a trip to Santorini's Red Beach. Sitting at the southern end of the island, this colorful sand beach has been formed from volcanic lava which gives the shoreline and cliffs a striking crimson colour. Small and secluded, with a number of hiking trails nearby, Red Beach is an intimate spot that is the perfect setting for a romantic day trip.

Cane Garden Bay Beach

Tortola, BVI

Located on the west side of the island, Cane Garden Bay is a half moon-shaped stretch of white powdery-sand, fringed by jungle fauna and flora to its rear, and the turquoise waters synonymous with the Caribbean laid out in front.

One of the best beaches in the Caribbean, the bay is sheltered from any strong winds, making it a popular spot for yachts to anchor. Behind its pristine beach lies a lively village with a few restaurants, bars and local stores. The crystal clear waters, interrupted only by fine yachts, provide a perfect setting for a romantic picnic by daylight or a quiet spot to listen to the waves as the stars comes out.

Orpheus Island

Northern Queensland, Australia

In northern Queensland, there is a group of islands known as the Palm Islands located in the Great Barrier Reef. The private resort of Orpheus Island only allows 36 people at a time to stay, meaning this quiet and intimate setting is perfect for enjoying a romantic evening. It is also one of the best places to see wildlife on the Great Barrier Reef.

The resort staff often light up a fire on the beach and set up cushions and wicker chairs for its guests to sip a glass of champagne and marvel at the view.

Pantai Dalit Beach

Borneo, Malaysia

Pantai Beach is as wild and rugged as they come; it's a vast stretch of white sand bordered by tropical rainforest and the South China Sea. Located at the prestigious Shangri-La Rasa Ria property near Kota Kinabula, Borneo, the beach neighbours the property's wildlife reserve.

The sea can be both unforgiving and unpredictable; it's best to admire from the safety of the pale yellow-sand beach. There are a few activities on offer including supervised water sports from the hotel, horse riding and long walks along the crescent beach.

Rabbit Island

Nelson, New Zealand

One of the most remote and wild beaches in New Zealand, this 13-kilometre stretch of crisp white sand surrounded by pine plantations is a great spot to sit and reflect.

Located only 20km west of Nelson, on New Zealand's South Island, Rabbit Island forms the largest island in the Waimea estuary. The wide remote beach has been declared a public reserve and is now owned by the Tasman District Council. Barbeques, picnics and even public conveniences are available here too.

Punta Molentis

Sardinia, Italy

To get away from the hustle and bustle of northern Sardinia, head south to one of the island's best beaches and visit the laid-back Punta Molentis, located near the village of Villasimius. This beach is rarely packed, even in the height of summer. Its emerald waters lap the white beach, all to a backdrop of sheer cliffs, dotted with lush green plants. It is one of the most romantic spots to enjoy some alone time.
