With just over a month to go until the 2016 Superyacht Design Symposium begins, our impressive guestlist are preparing for the slopes and looking forward to three days of lively debate and a fun filled social programme.

Taking place at the  K3 KitzKongress in the heart of Kitzbühel, at the foot of the famous Hahnenkamm ski run, the event takes place from February 21-23 and welcomes superyacht owners and senior industry professionals as well as experts from the wider design industry for two days of design-based discussion, networking, social events and ski activities in the beautiful setting of the Tyrol.

New speakers have been announced for the Superyacht Design Symposium

Beginning with a Cocktail Reception in association with Tai Ping on Sunday evening, where guests can become acquainted with their fellow participants, the one and a half day Symposuim kicks off on Monday morning covering  2016 topics such as ‘What is the new luxury’ and ‘What has a superyacht got in common with a warship’.

The speaker line up for the Symposium includes: Tim Heywood, Andrew Winch, Terence DisdaleEspen Øino, Axel de Beaufort of Hermes, Stefan Sielaff of Bentley, Theo Fennell and Ilse Crawford.

No one wants an ugly superyacht, but how can you be certain to build a beautiful one? What defines taste?  Theo Fennell and Terence Disdale will explore more on this topic during the panel ‘Is beauty a science or an art?’.

"Form ever follows function" according to the architect Louis Sullivan. But are functional imperatives sometimes at odds with the designer's version? Andrew Winch and Stefan Sielaff join the panel to discuss this further during the session 'Form vs Function'.

In addition the ‘Superyacht Owner Panel’ featuring Nick Candy, Brian O’Sullivan and Dr. Alexander Rosa-Alscher will provide a unique perspective on the industry from personal experiences as well as drawing from their professional expertise.

Tim Heywood will be speaking at the 2016 event

For more in-depth discussions, Technical Workshops will feature the latest topics and trends in the superyacht industry.

The Symposium is complemented by a first-class programme of social events including the  2016 ShowBoats Design Awards and Celebration Party which invites guests to a lively and authentic Tyrolian experience at an Austrian alm high in the mountains. An Austrian feast awaits, complete with Schnapps, traditional Austrian entertainment and dancing into the early hours.

Inspired by the picturesque mountains, ski enthusiasts can take to the slopes to participate in the Blohm+Voss Ski Cup, presented by Foil.

There is limited accommodation remaining. Due to incredibly high demand, partner hotels — Kitzhof, Bio-Hotel Stanglwirt, and Schwarzer-Adler — have a limited number of rooms remaining at a reduced rate, exclusive to guests of the Superyacht Design Symposium. We encourage you to book before the end of January.
