Boy Willie dredging for oysters in the Carrick Roads, Falmouth

One of the few late 20th century artists to feature in the sale, Jamie Medlin’s highly realistic renderings of everyday naval scenes have a stunning pastoral quality. His depiction of the Falmouth oyster dredgers is particularly poignant as they are the last working sail-powered fishing vessels in Europe, having been restricted to sails and oars by local by-laws in order to protect the ecology of the river bed.
