Kate Middleton and Ben Ainslie America's Cup bid

As she prepares to head to the opening event of the America's Cup in Portsmouth this weekend, we show you how to recreate Kate Middleton's top five nautical looks...

London, 2014

In June 2014 the Duchess of Cambridge joined Ben Ainslie at the National Maritime Museum in London to launch Britain's America's Cup bid. The Duchess supported the bid as part of her role as patron of The 1851 Trust, a charity which aims to introduce a new generation to sailing.

For the event she chose a nautical-inspired dress from British high street favourite Jaeger worn with custom Alexander McQueen pumps, a Cartier watch and Russell & Bromley clutch bag.

Get the look: Boucle trim dress, £99 (was £225), Jaeger; Florisa navy court shoes, £160, L. K. Bennett; Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch, £4,000, Cartier; Muse suede clutch, £255, Stuart Weitzman for Russell & Bromley

Kate Middleton America's Cup New Zealand

As part of their tour of Australia and New Zealand in April 2014, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge raced a pair of Emirates Team New Zealand America's Cup yachts in Auckland harbour. Thanks to the help of veteran America's Cup skipper Dean Barker (pictured) - who has joined Team Japan for the 2017 Cup - along with her own sailing knowledge, the Duchess was victorious.

For the race Kate chose a classic sailing outfit comprised of Zara skinny jeans, a Me + Em Breton striped top and neutral boat shoes from Sebago.

Get the look: Breton top, £48, Me + Em; Le Color Deep Blue Dive jeans, £120, Frame Denim; Bala boat shoes, £89.99, Sebago

Kate Middleton Sydney

As part of the same tour, Kate Middleton and Prince William visited the world famous Sydney Opera House. After a tour and reception at the opera house, the couple were taken across the harbour by boat to Admiralty House where they met with more dignitaries.

As is the custom on royal state visits, Kate chose a Roksanda sheath dress in a shade of yellow which reflects the gold of the Australian flag. This was paired with an L. K. Bennett clutch bag, Annoushka pearl earrings and a Mappin & Webb white gold pendant necklace.

Get the look: Silk and wool-blend crepe dress, £1,450, Victoria Beckham at Net-A-Porter; Natalie raffia box clutch, £185, L. K. Bennett; Pearl earrings, £1,090, Annoushka; Fortune white gold pendant, £1,850, Mappin & Webb
