Last night (July 22, 2015) saw the annual Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation (LDF) gala take place in Saint Tropez. The event was co-sponsored by Chopard and Giorgio Armani and took place at Domaine Bertaud Belieu.

The reception

The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation recently donated $15 million to ocean and environmental charities. At the gala a further $40 million was raised to support the work of the LDF, which is dedicated to protecting the Earth's endangered wildlife, combating climate change and preserving the natural environment.

The dinner

The star-studded guest list - which featured a number of celebrities recently spotted on superyachts - were treated to a decadent dinner before the evening's charitable proceedings began.

The auction

The highlight of the evening was the auction hosted by Leonardo DiCaprio, which featured some incredible lots. DiCaprio kicked off proceedings by donating his own Rolex Daytona Cosmograph watch and Andy Warhol and Banksy artworks from his private collection.

The auction

Other key lots included ownership of a private estate on DiCaprio's Belize Island in Blackadore Caye which went for $11 million, a private concert with Elton John which sold for $3 million and a limited re-edition of Rodin's The Thinker, created in collaboration with the Rodin Museum, which went for nearly $2 million.

The auction

The auction also offered bidders a number of once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Prince Albert II of Monaco offered to accompany the winning bidder on both an Arctic expedition, which sold for $1.6 million, and a private dinner at Monaco's Larvotto Marine Reserve, which went for $400,000. Harvey Weinstein also offered winning bidders the chance to be his personal guest at an array of high profile events including the Oscars, Cannes Film Festival, Met Gala and White House Correspondents Dinner. The package raised $1.1 million in total.

The party

Elton John kicked off the evening's party by treating the crowd to an impromptu performance of some of his greatest hits before Grammy-Award winner John Legend took to the stage for a special performance.

Music was then provided by DJ Cassidy as high profile names including Goldie Hawn, Petra Nemcova, Michelle Rodriguez, Bianca Brandolini, Larry Gagosian, Tommy Hilfiger and Jessica Stam hit the floor.

“Tonight’s event is about supporting LDF's efforts to protect key species like the tiger, rhino, shark, and mountain gorilla by working with governments to conserve the jungles, coral reefs and forests they call home," said Leonardo DiCaprio of the evening. "By focusing on protecting these critically-endangered iconic species it is almost like setting up a worldwide network of Noah's arks."

The party

The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation currently supports more than 70 projects in over 40 countries and works with experts and environmental leaders to identify effective schemes and techniques that will best achieve its aims of conservation, preservation and restoration.
