The Ceremony

On 10 June 2019, the BOAT International and Blue Marine Foundation Ocean Awards ceremony took place at Fishmongers' Hall in London.

Now in its fourth year, the awards honour and celebrate people and organisations who work tirelessly to help address the largest problem on the planet – the crisis in ocean conservation and sustainability. 2019 saw a fantastic number of nominations from all over the world. The trophies were kindly provided by Crystal Caviar.

Local Hero Award

Zoona Naseem, co-founder and owner of Moodhu Bulhaa Dive Centre on Villingili Island, Maldives receives the Local Hero Award.

The Science Award

Tony Long collects the Science Award on behalf of David Kroodsma, director of research, Global Fishing Watch.

The Innovation Award

Dr Anne Kapuscinski, director of the Coastal Science and Policy Program and professor of Environmental Studies at the University of California was highly commended in the Innovation category.

The Innovation Award

Silent Yachts was highly commended in the Innovation category for the launch of the Silent 64, a 19.4-metre solar-hybrid, ocean-going catamaran.

Visionary Award

Lewis Pugh received the Visionary Award for his 49-day, 527-kilometre swim along the English channel and campaign to win protection for at least 30 per cent of the world’s oceans by 2030.

Public Awareness Award

The Ocean Race received the Public Awareness Award for advancing the public’s understanding of marine conservations issues via its sustainability programme.

Judges' Special Award

The Judges’ Special Award was joint awarded to the Alliance for the Conservation of Biodiversity, Culture and Territory and the Sub-Antarctic Biocultural Conservation Program.

Edna Fajardo receives the award on behalf of the Alliance for the Conservation of Biodiversity, Culture and Territory.

Judges' Special Award

Dr Shaun Russell receives the Judges' Special Award on behalf of the Sub-Antarctic Biocultural Conservation Program.
