Greatest Hits: How Custom Line has evolved

17 June 2021

Now with a fleet of over 250 boats worldwide, Custom Line is one of Europe’s go-to builders for customisable planing and displacement boats from 30 metres in length. Here, we find out where it all started.

Custom Line was founded in 1996 to create a range of yachts in composite materials individually designed and built for highly demanding clients. Custom Line has continued to offer large internal areas for onboard livability and privacy with tailor-made interiors. Having been part of the Ferretti Group since 1996, Custom Line has created more than 20 projects in its 25 years as a shipbuilder.

The first project yacht born by Custom Line was the 28.80-metre motor yacht Custom Line 94’ presented in Cannes in 1998 which was followed by the Custom Line 112’ and the Custom Line 30.95-metre Navetta. This is how the "souls" of Custom Line planing and displacement hulls were born.

The entire displacement and planing fleet is the result of a longstanding collaboration with the Zuccon International Project studio until the Custom Line 120' was introduced in 2018 with design by Francesco Paszkowski Design followed by the Custom Line Navetta 30 line in 2020, which is designed by Filippo Salvetti.

The Custom Line 97' made its first appearance at the Genoa International Boat Show in 2006 as a new development by the Ferretti Group design team and Zuccon International Project.

Designed by the Zuccon International Project and the Ferretti Group, the Navetta 26 was first presented at Cannes in September 2007 as the Italian yard’s first vessel in its line of eco-chic yachts.

As a follow-on from the first Custom Line 112' built in 2001, the Custom Line 112' NEXT was introduced during Cannes in September 2008 and brought the brand into the Asian market.

In 2008, a new Custom Line project: the Navetta 33 was also born. The Navetta 33 had its world premiere at the Festival International de la Plaisance in Cannes in September 2008 and is the top model in the brand's line of displacement composite yachts. 2011 was also a year for many new Custom Line projects: two Custom Line planning yachts – the Custom Line 100’ and Custom Line 124’ and two restyled Navetta 33 Crescendo and Navetta 26 Crescendo – came on to the market.

In 2014 and 2015, another two Custom Line projects – the new Navetta 28 and the new Custom Line 108’ – were introduced.

The brand-new version of the Navetta 33 was launched in 2017: the Navetta 33 NEW. The new style of yacht, designed by a member of the Ferrari family, pushes the traditional navetta design to offer more customisation options.

In 2016, new investments helped form new Custom Line projects which marked the new Custom Line era, giving new impetus and continuing the positive sales trend for this cutting-edge brand. Announced at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the very first Custom Line 120' planing superyacht was developed in collaboration with Francesco Paszkowski Design and was officially launched in 2018 at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Launched at the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show, the 41.8-metre Navetta 42 is Custom Line’s largest displacement yacht and flagship. The fully customisable yacht spans across four decks that can be laid out with four VIP or five regular suites.

The Navetta 30 is now the yard's entry-level of displacement yachts and is the first project with exteriors designed by Filippo Salvetti with interiors by architecture and design firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel. Sporting a clean and linear design, the first unit took to the water during 2020 and both the second and the third units are ready to sail during summer 2021.

Today, Custom Line continues to maintain its leadership in the international yachting world in its segment with a strong Italian luxury design, technology and heritage.
