Spotlight: The 48Wallytender features origami-style decks for 4m² of extra sunbathing space
The 48Wallytender is one of the latest incarnations of the iconic runabout and the first fruit of the Wally-Ferretti Group alliance. Sleek and modern, the tender stays true to the brand’s ethos while reaping the benefits of its new parent company.
In a nod to an innovation developed by Wally in 2002, the boat has two fold-down hydraulic bulwarks that open origami-style, adding an additional four square metres of sunbathing space. Meanwhile aft, the passerelle doubles as a five-step swim ladder and will swing down into the water at the touch of a button for ease access to the water.
The 48Wallytender is built with a GRP hull and carbon fibre deck and hardtop to keep the weight down to a respectable 11.5 tonnes. With two Volvo IPS 650 engines – hidden beneath the aft sunpads – it tops out at 35 knots.
Below deck, there’s a cabin, sofa and shower cubicle - the challenge was to raise the freeboard high enough to accommodate a voluminous interior without compromising the lines.
