Greatest hits: Past history of Pershing

30 June 2021

Part of the major Italian boat-building company Ferretti Group, the luxury yacht builder Pershing has been building high-performance composite motor yachts from 16 to 43 metres in length since 1985 from its high-tech 53,000-square-metre shipyard in Mondolfo and the nautical hub in Ancona, where the Ferretti Group’s Superyacht Yard is based. Over three decades, Pershing has produced more than 30 yacht models.

Italian entrepreneurs Tilli Antonelli, Fausto Filippetti and Giuliano Onori founded Cantieri Navali dell’Adriatico in 1981. In 1985 they signed the collaboration with yacht designer Fulvio De Simoni and unveiled their first performance luxury motor yacht model, the Pershing 45.

With space for up to four guests, the Pershing 70 was introduced to the market as the brand’s latest speedboat that can reach up to 60 knots thanks to her gas turbine.

The smaller 16.36-metre Pershing 54 offers speeds of up to 48 knots thanks to twin MAN 1300HP engines.

As soon as Pershing was under the wing of the Ferretti Group, the size of the Pershing fleet and the yard’s working capacity immediately grew. Soon after, the brand introduced the Pershing 37 model and then the iconic 88.

The new 20.4-metre Pershing 76 was created with a sporty and sleek silhouette.

With a brand-new yard opening comprising three ultra-modern glass and steel buildings for construction and painting, Pershing had a busy year, also due to the launch of the Pershing 50 and Pershing 115 models.

By offering another new size of high-performance cruiser, Pershing kept up with the market demand in 2007 with the introduction of the Pershing 72 model.

Pershing 5X was the first model of the X Generation range launched at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2016. Followed by Pershing 9X, Pershing 8X, Pershing 7X and the upcoming Pershing 6X, these models are characterised by four fundamental pillars: design, technology, performance, and use of ultra-lightweight materials.

Pershing introduced its latest range of 20-35-metre yachts, the TØ Project, and began construction of the first 35.2-metre unit with a delivery date set for 2022.

Measuring 43.3 metres, the Pershing 140 is the largest of the Pershing fleet to date built from aluminium. Built at the Ferretti Group Super Yacht Yard in Ancona, her main features involve the raised helm station connected to the sundeck, the yacht owner’s area on the main deck, and the beach area that can open fully on three sides.

At the Cannes Yachting Festival 2021, Pershing will showcase Pershing 6X: the latest of the X Generation range. Still with the unmistakable Pershing design signature, the new yacht will be equipped with the most advanced Pershing control technology, updated design and exclusive carbon details. The new yacht will be "enjoyable in every aspect, and will defy all conventions," according to the yard.
