In photos: Roberto Cavalli’s new superyacht Freedom revealed

Cavalli's brief called for an unusual and innovative design, resulting in aggressive lines, low on the water with plenty of volume despite its limited length. The layout includes a large garage at the bow, where a 3.8 metre tender can be stored.

“Everybody knows me for my animal prints – leopard and zebra. In this boat, our bedroom is covered in leopard print,” Cavalli told Boat International. The master is also equipped with direct access to the wheelhouse, as Cavalli intends to drive the yacht himself, as well as access to the lounge/beach area and a small flybridge deck.

The interior decor was personally created by Cavalli, who selected fabric and leather finishes, as well as furniture and accessories, to reflect his approach to life at sea and his strong personality.

At the start of the design process, Cavalli wanted just one cabin and already knew the boat had to be painted black. The inspiration was the Dark Avenger; he envisioned a boat Batman would want to have. However he ended up inserting two guest cabins on the lower deck, one twin and one VIP cabin. They are located on either side of the corridor aft of the galley.

The unusual layout sees the full beam galley with dining space sit on the lower deck. Cavalli loves to cook himself, so the galley has been made intentionally spacious, with plentiful counter space and a good sound system.

Freedom is equipped with two dining areas.

The outdoor dining space id protected by the wind, flanked by two large glass doors etched with the Cavalli logo. It is designed for sea views, comfort and protection from the element. "Outside we have a white couch with leopard print pillows," Cavalli previously told Boat International.

The wheelhouse has direct access to the master cabin on the main deck to allow Cavalli to drive Freedom when he feels like it. There are also doors to sidedeck and direct access to the crew quarters, which are forward on the lower deck and 160-degree visibility.

From the first sketches, the yacht had unusual and voluptuous lines, but it took many iterations to arrive at the final version of the yacht.

Equipped with three waterjets, Freedom reached a top speed of 43.5 knots on technical sea trials, perfect for Cavalli who likes nothing better than to overtake other boats.
