Circa Marine to build new Dashew FPB 78 motor yacht

9 June 2013 • Written by Malcolm MacLean

The first of Steve Dashew’s FPB 78 ocean-cruising yachts is scheduled to start cutting metal this September at Circa Marine in New Zealand.

The FPB 78 will be powered by a pair of L1066 Lugger diesel engines (based on the Deere 6068 series block). Lugger marinization, in particular their choice of fuel injection pump and turbo, gives engines that allow cruising at 11 knots while turning at approximately 1,600rpm, a very smooth and quiet place to operate these little diesels.

The unique Matrix deck has evolved from the same area on the FPB 97. Access to and from is under a fixed roof, dry in almost all conditions.

Inside, 'The great room' as the saloon is called, has much in common with the FPB 97. Guest cabins are separated from the owner's suite area by the hallway. The bulkhead at the head of the suite's bed is structural, and will end up being about 100mm thick. This will allow for a substantial layer of sound insulation. Delivery is set for 2015.
