Standout concepts from the Monaco Yacht Show 2021

ZeRo

ZeRo

Revealed by designer Sam Sorgiovanni as the Monaco Yacht Show got underway, the futuristic, hydrogen-powered concept ZeRo features a “striking yet sleek” semi-planing hull form and a “restrained” superstructure. The concept’s propulsion package takes centre stage, however. Comprising of hydrogen tanks, fuel cells and electric engines alongside a battery storage system, the yacht is capable of travelling at high speeds with a “zero-carbon impact” on the environment.

Elemental Power and Elemental Sail

Elemental Power

Abeking & Rasmussen, Tripp Design and Studio Liagre revealed two new concepts in Monaco; the 75 metre motor yacht Elemental Power and 90 metre sailing yacht Elemental Sail. Elemental Power has been designed with an efficient hull form and aerodynamic superstructure, while Elemental Sail 's exterior profile is characterised by a long waterline, a pair of 82.5 metre masts and extensive use of glass. The two designs make up the ‘Elemental Project’, which aims  to make “motor yachts more energy-efficient and sailing yachts more user friendly."

ALICE

ALICE

Lürssen’s 98 metre, emission-free concept ALICE was inspired by Alice in Wonderland and spans five decks – including a fully-open main deck. Powered by fuel cell technology, the concept features a sprawling garden on the bow, contributing to the “wonderland” feel. Multiple al fresco dining and lounging areas are found on board, with the concept’s 17 metre beam providing amenities such as a floating glass-bottomed pool suspended above the entrance area. Meanwhile, the sundeck is home to a helipad, oversized sun pads and a circular lounge area aft.

APEX

Lloyd Werft's 115m Apex

German yard Lloyd Werft’s 115 metre explorer yacht concept APEX features an exterior penned by Monaco based studio The A Group . The exterior is characterised by open spaces, especially the stern which contrasts with the “massive ice-going bow”, which is “almost four decks high” and can “cope with the heaviest weather”, according to the yard. Elsewhere, APEX can store two 20 metre tenders, while the 18.5-metre beam, results in 2,5000sqm of living areas.

Apache

Apache

Penned by Alberto Mancini and presented by Tankoa, this steel and aluminium concept Apache features a double-walled glass-bottomed swimming pool suspended in its bow. Owners can choose between two propulsion options; either twin CAT or MAN engines, both of which power the concept to a high speed of 16.5 knots and a range of 5,000 nautical miles. Elsewhere, the beach club includes 125sqm space thanks to folding side terraces, allowing the area to provide an “extension of the outdoor living space,” according to Mancini.

ONE 50

ONE 50

German shipbuilder Meyer Group entered the superyacht market with its first yacht concept - the 150 metre ONE 50. Spanning six decks, the concept features a 20 metre beam and a large volume of 15,000GT. ONE 50 is designed to be powered by fuel cell technology and battery banks, with 25,000kW of electricity expected to deliver a top speed of 23 knots.
