First look: Inside the Sunseeker 182 ahead of its debut

12 September 2023 • Written by Katia Damborsky

British shipyard Sunseeker took the opportunity of Cannes Yachting Festival to reveal the first images inside its 27.1-metre Sunseeker 182 model. First presented at last year's edition of the show, the superyacht has now arrived in the United States and is preparing to debut at the Newport Boat Show.

According to the yard, the Ocean 182 will offer something "completely novel" to the existing Ocean range. Named after its gross tonnage, the GRP yacht features a newly designed enclosed flybridge and a widebody hull that allows for a 7.2-metre beam and plenty of internal volume.

The Sunseeker Ocean 182 is the larger sibling of the Ocean 90

One of the key features of this model is the single helm station on the upper deck, which leaves the main deck free of navigation equipment. This has allowed Suneeker to create a much more "open plan" and "high-glazed" area, according to Douglas Culverwell, director of distributor development at Sunseeker.

Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors to starboard match floor-to-ceiling windows on the port side offering uninterrupted views from bow to stern. A curved steel and timber staircase leads up to the flybridge which, alongside the helm station, offers an intimate social space serviced by a bar.

The beach club on board the Ocean 182 measures six by four metres and is complete with Sunseeker's patented X-TEND sun lounger system, which can be used in its lowered position facing aft or raised to face forward into the aft cockpit. Beneath the raised garage door is a rain shower for guests to rinse off, with ample space for water toys.

Accommodation is for up to eight guests with cabins located on the lower deck.

Speaking about how the design was born, Culverwell said: "We listen to our clients and our distributors" and they want an "easy transition from space to space". Solutions like retractable doors offer flexibility to the owner, allowing the flybridge forward to function as either a balcony or as a sheltered living space.

Powered by Twin MAN V12 1650 or 1900 engines, the Ocean 182 model can achieve a comfortable top speed of 27 knots. Meanwhile, at a displacement speed of 12 knots, this yacht has an extended range of 1,100 nautical miles.

The configuration has allowed for a much more "open plan" and "high-glazed" area

The yard has sold two units so far, with the second hull expected to hit the water in two weeks' time. There are a total of three units in production.

At the Cannes Yachting Festival, the shipyard also disclosed that the 25.1-metre Ocean 156 is on track to launch next year and will be the first Sunseeker model with four predesigned main deck layouts available to clients from the outset.
