Top 5 smart ways the Mangusta Oceano 42 uses glass

Glass-floored beach club

Hull number one in the Mangusta Oceano 42 series, this innovative yacht is a first for Italian yard Overmarine in many ways. Not only is she the first steel displacement yacht in the yard’s history, but she also boasts many cutting edge design features involving glass that set her apart from the rest of the fleet.

The superyacht beach club area is a common feature among larger yachts, but Overmarine has added a clever twist by installing six large glass panels into the transom, which allow guests to see underwater from the comfort of their sunlounger. Other key features here include the two showers: one on the bathing platform for a quick rinse off, and an enclosed shower cabin to starboard for added privacy.

Skylights connect the decks

Overmarine’s clever use of glazing on the Mangusta Oceano 42 can also be seen on the sun deck, where a glass dining table begins a cascade of light, passing through the four skylights in the floor down to the aft deck.

From here, the square glass motif continues, with another glass table and two more skylights that connect all three decks and further improve the amount of natural light flowing down into the beach club.

Sliding glass side doors

The biggest expanse of glass on the Mangusta Oceano 42 can be found in the main-deck saloon, where Overmarine has fitted sliding glass doors that stretch all the way from the floor to the ceiling.

When fully opened up these allow for spectacular views out to sea and provide easy access to the broad side decks, which lead up to the foredeck.

Foredeck spa pool

In keeping with one of the key trends spotted at Cannes Yachting Festival 2016, the Mangusta Oceano 42 boasts a foredeck spa pool — an ideal space for guests to relax and soak up the sun.

The sloping forepeak means that guests taking a dip will see the water extend off into the distance in a spectacular infinity pool effect. Frosted glass in the base of this spa pool creates a shimmering light effect in the owner’s suite below.

Wraparound glazing on the upper deck

Styled inside and out by Italian design Alberto Mancini, the Mangusta Oceano 42 retains the sporty looks that Overmarine is best known for.

The sleek exterior lines are a key part of this, accentuated by extensive use of tinted glass in the superstructure, particularly the wrap-around glass section on the upper deck.
