Why the AB 120 is perfectly poised for the US yachting market

21 November 2023 • Written by Dea Jusufi for NEXT Yacht Group

AB Yachts recently excited American waters with the AB 80, a 25.4-metre, entry-level model known as the "Formula One car of the seas". Now, the NEXT Yacht Group brand is expanding its horizons (and spec sheet) with the all-new AB 120, delivering an equally sporty and alluring design in a 37-metre package. Expect state-of-the-art technologies, impressive volume and innovative solutions to onboard living – all inspired from beyond the naval sector.

Tailor-made for the American market, it's no wonder the AB 120 will be making its global debut a US-exclusive. BOAT International gets a first look before the model's appearance at the Palm Beach International Boat Show 2024...

The AB 120 has a range of 500 nautical miles when (barely) pared back to 40 knots

A performance powerhouse

Equipped with three 2600hp engines and three waterjets (a system that AB Yachts pioneered in 1992), the AB 120 was born to perform. She can fly across the water at over 45 knots, an eye-watering spec turned jaw-dropping when combined with her zero-vibration and reduced CO2 emission build. With a low draught of 1.3 metres/four feet, an AB 120 owner can discover any destination with ease, navigating remote bays, coral cays and shallow waters as seen in the Caribbean, Bahamas and Miami.

Taking outdoor play seriously

At the centre of the AB 120's design is an indoor-outdoor space, easily created by sliding open the saloon doors. The saloon, aft cockpit and beach club combine into an integrated leisure area measuring over 100 square metres. Deploy the two large aft wings and the beach club is extended further, becoming a "magnificent terrace on the sea" for swimming, sunbathing or afternoon sunset gazing.

Tender and toys onboarding is also the easiest it's ever been, with the AB 120's aft garage "float-in" system and functional forward garage. At a whim, guests can move from cruising to a caper aboard a Jet Ski, Seabob, electric foil board, stand-up paddle board, bike or inflatables. There's also stowage space for a 4.6-metre tender, ready for nimble explorations along tropical coasts and coves.

Innovative, customisable living spaces

From layout to décor, every AB Yachts model is thoroughly customisable. Floor-to-ceiling windows fill each living space with natural light and 360-degree ocean views, fostering a genuine connection with the yacht's surroundings.

On this specific vessel, AB Yachts has opted for a soft, contemporary-chic aesthetic. Warm, colonial-style wood meets glass, leather and glossy surfaces, while living spaces are arranged with innovative Flexform furniture and integrated lighting. Accommodation is for up to 10 guests across four spacious cabins, plus a hotel-style "double height ceiling" saloon with glazed surfaces of over 50 square metres. The dedicated crew quarters can fit up to six crew across three en suites.

Ample amenities, including a cinema under the stars

Balmy summer evenings are best enjoyed on the AB 120's "cinema under the stars" system, found on the sundeck (the yacht's highest point). This creative "open-roof" interpretation also encourages al fresco dining, private moments or high-speed thrills when the yacht is underway.

Other premium amenities include a convertible gym room – fitted with cutting-edge Tonal equipment – and a bar that has been designed exclusively for the owner.

"This is not just an eye-catching, high-performing yacht," explains Giacomo Benelli, head of sales at Next Yacht Group. "It is an original, distinctive and increasingly exciting model, offering the unique pleasure of speed, outdoor life and reaching any possible destination without the slightest space or time constraint."
