How to enter the ShowBoats Design Awards 2017

The  ShowBoats Design Awards was specifically devised to judge and recognise the designers responsible for the individual elements of a superyacht. Aspects of the most impressive yachts launched in the preceding calendar year are scrutinised and judged by a panel of design experts.

While the  World Superyacht Awards recognises superyachts in their entirety, the ShowBoats Design Awards focuses directly on the fundamental design aspects of superyacht design such as naval architecture, exterior design and interior layout, and brings the specialist design skills of the industry’s most talented teams into the spotlight.

The ShowBoats Design Awards are open to yachts equal to or more than 30m LOA and delivered to their owners between 1 November, 2015 and 31 October, 2016.

To enter the ShowBoats Design Awards, you must make a nomination on the website and have submitted all supporting documentation by Friday October 21, 2016. A fee of £150 plus VAT will be charged per category entered. Entry fees need to be paid on submission of the nomination.

Details of entry

Limitation of entries

There is no restriction on the number of categories in which a single yacht may be entered.

Tenders nominated for the Tender and Support Vessel Design Award must have been delivered in the same time period as yachts for this competition. Nominated tenders must be embarked on a yacht in service, but that yacht does not need to be entered in the awards competition.

We encourage the development of new talent with a Newcomer of the Year Award. Please note, while there is no fee for this entry, the designer(s) must have been associated with the design of a yacht or a tender entered in at least one of the other categories.

Entry details

Any person may nominate any yacht, with the limitation that this person must be able to and is authorised to provide the requested supporting information, including permission of the owner of the vessel to enter the competition. If this is not forthcoming, the yacht will not be judged. Once correctly nominated, an email confirming the acceptance of the entry will be sent to the person making the nomination. All documentation in support of each entry must be received by Boat International Media by Friday 21 October, 2016.

Documentation size

Judges will receive submissions from each entry in the form of a digital dossier. So that judges are able to give proper consideration to each entry, the documentation (excluding photographs and other illustrations, for which the submission details are given below) submitted in support of an entry for each category must not exceed the highlighted number of pages indicated for each category and on A4 sized paper with text size at a minimum of 11 points.

Submission of photographs

Photographs should be a minimum 300dpi (high resolution print quality) and supplied as individual .jpg files, not a pdf document containing embedded photographs, as the latter does not provide sufficient quality when projected. These images may also be used in the Official Programme, should your entry be selected as a finalist and in online announcements of finalists.

If your nomination is selected as a finalist, you will be asked to provide high resolution video footage of the vessel that will be used for the on-screen presentation at the ShowBoats Design Awards in February.
