First 53m Mengi Yay Virtus XP sold

29 March 2023 • Written by Nick Jeffery

Hull number one of the 52.6-metre Mengi Yay Virtus XP series has been sold in-house by David Legrand and Alain Auvare at Fraser.

The RINA-classed yacht is part of the Turkish shipyard's Virtus series and is scheduled for delivery in 2025. Construction is steel and aluminium and the model joins two Mengi Yay Virtus 47M in the construction shed outside of Istanbul, Turkey.

53m Virtus XP asking price, for hull number two, is €28,900,000.

The model is conceived as a "go anywhere" explorer yacht with design by Paolo Dose of VYD Studio with engineering by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. Highlights include a helipad, a pool deck with fold-down bulwarks, a master suite on the bridge deck and ample tender storage. Accommodation is for 10 guests in five staterooms and there are quarters for a crew of nine.

The 499GT yacht's cruising speed is calculated to be 12 knots with a maximum speed of 16 knots. Offered as either a diesel or hybrid, the owner of hull number one has opted for traditional propulsion, powered by twin 1,450hp Caterpillar diesels. The propulsion system is compliant with Green Plus Ice Classic 1C notation.

Speaking on the new model, Fraser's David Legrand said: "We created, with the shipyard, a business model for what we believe the market will want in the next couple of years. We created the boat that the market will want rather than having an owner coming to commission a boat. Hull number one we created like this and it has been sold quickly. Hull number two remains to be sold. The idea is that one boat is for sale in each of the Virtus series. It is a very interesting business model."

The second hull in the series is offered for sale with Fraser and will be built alongside the first unit. Hull number two is asking €28,900,000 with delivery in 2025.
