The Times, London, reports Robert Moran, founder and President of Moran Yacht and Ship, pleaded guilty on April 14th 2009 to filing a false tax return as the US federal authorities widen investigations into Americans hiding money with the Swiss banking giant UBS from the Internal Revenue Service. He faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on June 26. He is the second American to be arrested since UBS turned over the banking records of US clients to the government in February as part of a $780 million settlement agreement. The decision to turn over the records was an unprecedented step and considered a major blow to Switzerland’s fabled bank secrecy laws.
