Superyacht sales pass €1 billion in 2012

A quick market update for you: the sale of Bella Bri on Friday took us past the €1 billion mark in terms of superyacht sales so far this year. This of course refers to asking prices at the time of sale, rather than actual sales prices.

We reached this milestone about a month earlier last year, although much of that was to do with the sale of Pelorus, which skewed the numbers somewhat.

Looking at the number of sales, things are still tracking behind 2011, although the total in May has risen to 24, rather than the 17 we mentioned in our last market report, which means a 15% year-on-year drop, as opposed to 20%.

However, we have only reported 10 June sales so far this month, whereas there were 31 in June 2011. Still, I keep hearing encouraging news of offers being made so that could change very soon.

We'll be publishing a comprehensive report covering activity in the first half of the year at the beginning of next month. In the meantime, check out our Market Intelligence section for the very latest superyacht sales statistics.
