5 of the best royal palaces to visit from a luxury yacht

Buckingham Palace, London

London

Queen Elizabeth II - one of our favourite royals at sea - is now officially Britain’s longest-reigning monarch and her London residence, Buckingham Palace, is well worth a visit.

Although much of the palace remains private 19 of its State Rooms are open to the public every summer. The stunning rooms are filled with famous masterpieces from the Royal Collection and their elaborate interiors are breathtaking. To really make the most of the experience book an exclusive guided tour, which finishes with a glass of Champagne served in the Bow Room.

How to visit on a superyacht: Berth your superyacht either at Canary Wharf or at St Katherine's Dock and then make your way towards Westminster by tender.

The Royal Palace of Stockholm

Sweden

The official residence of the King of Sweden, the Royal Palace of Stockholm, is one of the largest in Europe. With more than 600 rooms across seven floors the baroque style palace certainly has plenty to see. Open to visitors year round it is normally possible to tour the Royal Apartments and the Treasury. The palace is also home to five museums and it is worth timing your visit to coincide with the changing of the guard.

Grand Palace Bangkok

Thailand

Situated on an artificial island, the Grand Palace in Bangkok is the city’s most famous landmark. It is home of the King, his court and also the entire administrative seat of government. A visit is recommended early in the morning before it gets too hot and both men and women need to ensure that legs and arms are covered.

How to visit on a superyacht: Thailand is currently trying to encourage more superyachts to visit the country. Last month it officially opened its waters to foreign flagged superyacht charters. However, most of the infrastructure development is focused in Phuket where a £95 million investment in Royal Phuket Marina was announced in June.

Palais du Prince, Monaco

Monaco

Palais du Prince, or the Prince’s Palace, in Monaco was built on the site of a fortress erected by the Genoese in 1215 but has since been transformed into a luxurious residence in the style of Louis XIV. Its position is the highlight - offering stunning views across Monaco, Port Hercules and the Mediterranean Sea. It is H.S.H. Prince Albert II’s official residence but the State Apartments are open to visitors during part of the year.

Topkapi Palace, Istanbul

Turkey

Topkapi Palace, which was a major residency of the Ottoman sultans for approximately 400 years, was transformed into a museum on the imperial era in 1924. The complex has hundreds of rooms with endless interesting collections and artefacts from the Ottoman era.

Kalamis and Fenerbahçe marinas are situated side-by-side, five miles east of the city centre and make a great base from which to explore Istanbul.
