Last night (July 20) saw the third annual Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation Gala take place at the Domaine Bertaud Belieu vineyard in St Tropez on the French Riviera. The star-studded event was held to raise money for DiCaprio's eponymous environmental foundation which last year donated over $15 million to marine, wildlife and conservation charities.
The evening was co-hosted by DiCaprio, the foundation's global chair Milutin Gatsby and CEO Terry Tamminen. DiCaprio opened proceedings with a speech addressing the threats to the world's oceans and environment at large, saying, "Not since the age of the dinosaurs have so many species of plants and animals become extinct in such a short period of time. We must now make an effort to protect the rich biodiversity that could allow nature to eventually recover. The good news is there are solutions to these massive problems. Efforts like tonight will start addressing them.”

After a glittering dinner, guests were treated to sets by Lana Del Rey, Robin Thicke, Julian Lennon and Bono while an array of carnival themed entertainments were installed across the vineyard's beautifully landscaped grounds.

A large portion of the evening's fundraising came via an auction of lots donated by a number of A-list celebrities. DiCaprio donated the night's biggest lot, a Damien Hirst portrait of himself called Golden Myth which sold for $6 million.

The evening's second starry lot came courtesy of Harvey Weinstein who offered the winner the chance to be his guest at every major society event of the year. The prize begins with two seats at Weinstein's table at the Weinstein Company Nominees Dinner - with the female partner being gifted a Marchesa couture dress - as well as invitations to various event during the Cannes Film Festival and tickets to the Met Ball and White House Correspondents Dinner.
