Superyacht Entourage – Italian Sea Group's 47m heralds a new era for the yard

16 January 2015 • Written by Tim Thomas

As the largest yacht launched this year from The Italian Sea Group’s new yard in Marina di Carrara, Italy, the significance of superyacht Entourage extends far beyond her 47-metre length. Innovative design, new lines and stringent engineering targets hint at great things to come as the Admiral and Tecnomar brands enter a new era.

Wow factor

Although she comes in at 499 gross tons, superyacht Entourage hides her volume well behind bold, angular lines. The cutaway bulwarks on the main deck – which are becoming something of a styling trend for the builder – open the view from the main saloon through giant glass windows. In total, more than six tons of glass was used in her construction – perfect for flooding her contemporary interior with light. In addition, a giant 80 square metre master suite adds the luxury of space for the owner.

Inspiration

The owner’s brief was very clear from the outset to have an indoor/outdoor living yacht, which included ample sport areas. There is a fully equipped gym by the owner’s suite and a steam room that can be used by the owner or guests, and a red light system lets the crew know when they can or can’t enter. The inside/outside ethos continues to the large expanses of glass that create sensational spaces on both the main and upper decks.

Construction

Every detail has been thought of in the construction of Entourage. Vibration and sound insulation have been prioritised even at the cost of a few tenths of speed, and the crew routes through the yacht are superb – including a full access tunnel aft from the crew quarters to the engine room. Equipment is top notch, and every corner of the build has been finished to a high standard including easy access to all plumbing and wiring runs. Every aspect has been considered in detail, from the layout and accessibility of the technical areas to the quality of materials, fitments and even the engine sizing.

Exterior styling

Bold lines and those cutaway bulwarks immediately resonate when viewed from afar. Up close, the deck spaces have been carefully considered, while the impressive volume of the yacht is hidden well behind the dynamic and contemporary styling. Careful structural engineering ensures that the vast panes of glass are unobstructed by chunky mullions, while the aft deck areas are free from the usual pillars that support the overhang, creating open and flexible spaces for guests.

Interior design

While her layout is largely conventional – a main deck saloon with dining area, forward master suite, generous upper saloon, and four guest cabins on the lower deck – the acres of glass create a sense of space and light throughout the main and upper decks. The yacht is finished in a clean, modern style with simple details from gloss macassar wood, stainless steel and white leather panels. ‘It’s a design that strikes a balance between cutting edge and lasting appeal,’ says interior designer Dragana Maznic. ‘There’s a constant dialogue between light and dark, gloss and matt, cool and warm and hard and soft to create visual interest and awake the senses.’

Outdoor living

The team eschewed an original request for a main deck balcony, and instead created a 6m by 1.5m balcony to starboard on the upper deck with a sliding glass door from the upper saloon. The sun deck – at 134 square metres – is prodigious, and comes complete with a forward spa pool with wraparound sunpads, loose seating and a large dining table under the radar arch. The main and upper decks offer further spacious social areas, while the foredeck has also been pressed into service offering a sunbathing area in front of the Portuguese bridge. Aft, clever design has allowed for both a decent, transverse garage and a beach club that, with the drop-down transom door adding further deck space, totals 34 square metres.

Twin C32 ACERTs were chosen for the engine room, offering a 17.4 knot top speed and a cruise of 15 knots. Moreover, she offers a 6,125-nautical mile range, ensuring she can travel to the far corners of the globe in comfort.
