Inside the glamorous 1970s celebrity party yacht Lady Sarya built by a New York socialite

21 September 2022 • Written by Laura Nicholls for PrivatSea

What’s most striking about Lady Sarya is her history of hosting poolside cocktail evenings and onboard dinner parties that, over the years, have delighted friendship groups and families alike. There is no doubt that the 76-metre yacht was built to entertain, and her luxurious design was created solely for New York property developer, William Levitt, in 1976 under the name La Belle Simone.

Now on the market with PrivatSea, Lady Sarya is looking for a new owner keen to entertain in lavish settings at sea. She is a yacht for sale with a lot to offer, and here, we take the opportunity to uncover the unique features and amenities on board this vintage vessel.

Vintage charm

In 2020, Lady Sarya underwent an interior refit which added a decidedly polished finish to her already opulent retro design. Built by Rinaldo Gastaldi, the yacht has maintained the intricate details that mark her as a nostalgic twentieth-century vessel, such as the rich antiques and bespoke artisan woodwork guests will recognise from the 1978 film, The Greek Tycoon, based on Onassis’ life with Anthony Quinn. Other claims to fame are accommodating some of the most glamorous celebrities of the era, including Gregory Peck, Frank Sinatra, Michael Caine, Harry Belafonte and James Bonds Sean Connery and Roger Moore.

Plenty of space

From the yacht’s main saloon to the upper bar lounge, Lady Sarya features many open spaces on board for unwinding, wining and dining. With six cabins able to hold up to 11 guests, she also features a sizeable master suite with a balcony door leading out to sea. Here, the 100 square metres of space is replete with cool and neutral tones which lend the boat an air of understated luxury. This room is also home to a substantial dressing suite of 23 square metres and two bathrooms.

Beyond the ample room for owners and guests to enjoy, is the impressive onboard space designed to accommodate the crew. With room for 36 crew members, both the boat’s own crew and any additional staff can stay on board.

Unique swimming spot

Marking this yacht out as a one-of-a-kind listing on the market is the large swimming pool that dominates the upper deck. This exterior pool has a depth of 1.45-metres and makes the ideal spot for entertaining and relaxing in picturesque settings. In the evening, guests can transition to the bar, located just beside the pool, for taking in the horizon with a sunset apéritif.

Great refit potential

Lady Sarya is a vessel that is fit for multiple purposes. With a new owner, there are a number of new configurations to which she can be restyled and remade; both her spacious interiors and exterior spaces can be altered to increase the number of berths, and an owner can imprint their own individual tastes, style, and operational needs throughout this versatile yacht. Plus, depending on how her prospective owner envisages using the yacht, she can easily hold room for 17 guests as a private yacht or can be transformed into a support vessel with enough space to accommodate up to 49 guests.

Currently lying in Greece, Lady Sarya is listed for sale exclusively with PrivatSea. To find out more, visit the PrivatSea website here, or contact:
