Form meets function: Introducing the Wajer 55

12 June 2018

Blending more than 25 years of boat building experience with the latest technical innovations and luxurious finishings, the Wajer 55 represents the pinnacle of the Dutch builder’s excellence and expertise. The 16 metre yacht enters the line-up as Wajer’s new flagship and, aided by design input from Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design and Vripack, builds upon the success achieved by its award-winning predecessors with a host of new features and superyacht-style amenities. And, with more than 30 hulls ordered in 18 months, the Wajer 55 is another hit.

At 16m, the Wajer 55 is the builder's flagship

Key among these developments is a pushbutton fender system that allows the fenders to pop out from the side and inflate automatically. Wajer is the first builder to include this type of system on a yacht below 17 metres and has ensured ultimate user friendliness by offering both remote and steering station control. The hydraulically operated anchor, which is neatly tucked away in the bow, can also be operated from the steering station and boasts automatic operation aided by a camera so there’s no longer any need to brave chilly climes when dropping anchor.

Of course, should you happen to be cruising in balmier climates, then the Wajer 55’s swim platform, which doubles as a gangway, offers the perfect spot to relax and cool off. Designed and developed in the Netherlands specially for the Wajer 55, at 1.8 metres this clever addition adjusts to the height of the quay and is wide enough to be enjoyed by several people. Elsewhere, a fully automated bimini offers shade for the aft seating area and table but can also be retracted should guests wish to enjoy the sunshine.

Operational innovations and passenger comfort are priorities on the Wajer 55

Technical innovations also abound with weight saving and noise reduction a key part of the Wajer 55’s design. Lightweight materials have been used throughout and, while the Wajer 55 is one of the few yachts of this size to feature three 435hp IPS600 Volvo Penta engines, her sleek V-hull, balance and spray rails guarantee a comfortable, dry ride at any speed.

And, if you’re the type of owner who likes to take the helm, then the Wajer 55’s joystick drive and Raymarine glass bridge system with four touchscreens make for a highly intuitive and easy to operate drive system. Four captain’s chairs have been installed so guests can join in the sailing fun while a wraparound windshield that is almost four metres wide offers everyone an impeccable view.

The Wajer 55 offers accommodation for up to six guests

If that weren’t enough, the compact engines means there is even room to store a 2.85 metre Williams Turbo Jet tender aft beneath the sun pads. Retrieved and released via a hydraulic system, it is the perfect companion to days exploring secluded coves and shallow waters, which can be further enhanced by the Wajer 55’s long-range fuel tanks, well-equipped galley and accommodation for up to six guests.

And the family is expanding. In April 2018 Wajer introduced the 55's sibling - the Wajer 55 S. The new model has the same hull as the Wajer 55, but with a completely different deck layout. It combines sportiness, luxury and comfort which is why Wajer is calling the new model a Sports Utility Yacht. To find out more about the 55 models visit wajer.com.
