How a “half deck” transforms life on board this new superyacht model

Overmarine Group has expanded its Mangusta GranSport range with the unveiling of the 49.9-metre Mangusta GranSport 50 earlier this year, joining the GranSport 34, 38, 45 and 54 in a lineup that continues to push the boundaries of the Sport Utility Yacht concept. The new flagship introduces a fresh design dimension, balancing sportiness, generous volumes and comfortable long-range cruising in a single platform.

Interior and exterior design comes courtesy of Alberto Mancini, with naval architecture developed by Overmarine's in-house Engineering Department in collaboration with Ausonio of P.L.A.N.A. Design.

Maurizio Balducci, CEO of Overmarine Group, says: " The Mangusta GranSport 50 has everything one expects of a Mangusta yacht: a highly recognisable sporty profile that embraces generous, stylishly harmonised interiors and exteriors, in an engineering feat that combines high speed, fuel efficiency and unmatched comfort with trans-oceanic range.”

Power comes from two 2,600hp MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines, delivering a top speed of approximately 20 knots, a cruising speed of 16 knots and a range of up to 4,200 nautical miles.

Half a deck more

The Mangusta GranSport 50 is built across three and a half decks, with a raised pilothouse at its core. Stefano Arlunno, president of Mangusta Americas, who oversaw the design process, explains the thinking behind this layout: “The inspiration behind the Mangusta GranSport 50 is equally simple and revolutionary: to offer ‘1/2 more' - half a deck more. The Raised Pilot House changes everything: we wanted to free up the upper deck by envisaging new configurations that would radically redefine the onboard experience and create spaces to live, and not just to walk through. On this vessel, the sea doesn’t simply surround you; it also stretches out right in front of you.”

By relocating the pilothouse to the upper deck, Overmarine has freed up the forward area to accommodate the brand's signature infinity pool on the foredeck, alongside a panoramic lounge inside. Owners can choose from a range of pre-engineered configurations during the design phase, including the option to convert the lounge into a sixth panoramic cabin or a family lounge and office overlooking the bow and infinity pool - effectively turning the entire level into the owner's private deck. This offers a vantage point normally reserved for the bridge, now exclusive to the owner and their guests.

The yacht accommodates a total of up to 12 guests across five cabins, including two doubles and two twins on the lower deck, with separate quarters for nine crew. True to Mangusta's bespoke approach, owners are placed at the heart of the creative process, from layout definition through to the selection of materials and finishes.

A supercar silhouette

Alberto Mancini has reinterpreted the sporty exterior features of the GranSport range in a more contemporary style. The silhouette remains streamlined and muscular, but extensive use of glass - including frameless fashion plates and side inserts in Grigio Europa glass - introduces a new interplay of shadows and reflections.

Mancini comments: "With the Mangusta GranSport 50, we wanted to take the onboard experience to the next level while also preserving the brand's DNA. Today, true luxury means space flexibility, brightness and freedom - this yacht embodies them all."

The stern is one of the Mangusta GranSport 50's most distinctive stylistic elements, embodying the new family look of the restyled range. A central staircase connects the main cockpit to the aft platform, while two curved side wings - sculpted like the doors of a supercar - open to reveal an exclusive beach club.

This space converts easily into a private waterside lounge or a panoramic gym overlooking the sea, complemented by sun loungers integrated into the transom.

A new interior layout

Sitting under the popular 499GT mark while retaining an open feel, the Mangusta GranSport 50's sundeck is conceived as an "elevated escape", offering 360-degree views and generous lounging space.

With the galley relocated to the lower deck, the main deck gains additional room for owner and guest use, including a main saloon with a separate formal dining area forward and a large open-air lounge on the aft deck. The master suite spans the yacht's full 9.6-metre beam, with large, glazed surfaces and the option of an automatically operated balcony.

Forward, an integrated side-opening garage provides storage for a 6.3-metre tender and two jet skis, freeing the stern to serve as the yacht's social hub, always in direct contact with the sea.
