On board the Princess S72 that’s designed for sociable living

BOAT International spoke to Joe Hill, large yacht sales director and head of brokerage at Princess Motor Yacht Sales, to discover what sets this exceptional boat apart.

Style and function

From the moment you lay eyes on the Princess S72, its sweeping profile is sure to turn heads. Awarded Best Exterior Design at the World Yachts Trophies 2023, the yacht's beautiful full-length hull windows not only enhance its visual appeal but also flood the interior with natural light, creating an open and spacious atmosphere.

Inside, the S72 boasts various innovative, functional design features. The spacious foredeck, for example, features sunbeds with integrated adjustable headrests, which can be transformed into additional aft-facing seats. Meanwhile, a locker between the sunbeds serves as an additional cool box.

The triple-sliding saloon doors establish a harmonious connection between the exterior and interior, while the cockpit bar seamlessly connects to the galley. “When you've got the sunroof open in the saloon, the pantograph door open and the windows open, it really does feel like you're in an outdoor boat,” says Hill.

The stern houses a generous garage capable of comfortably accommodating a 3.9-metre tender and two Seabobs, whilst the stern platform can also carry a Jet Ski. "With the tender in the garage, two Seabobs and a Jet Ski, you've got a pretty loaded boat in terms of toys," notes Hill. "There is also a lot of space on top of the tender for some paddleboards, and you wouldn't need to deflate them because there's enough length there."

A social hub

The Princess S72 is designed with sociable living in mind. The cockpit features a unique U-shaped seating area with modular seating, a folding teak table and a servery unit, creating a perfect space for entertaining or simply relaxing while enjoying the yacht's exhilarating performance.

The upper deck's sportbridge invites outdoor living with a large U-shaped dining area, wet bar with a barbecue and L-shaped seating that transforms into a sunbed. For those seeking further shade and protection from the elements, the flybridge is available with a T-Top.

Space and comfort

Below deck, the Princess S72 provides a luxurious experience for up to eight guests in four beautifully appointed cabins, three of which are ensuite. The elegant hull glazing bathes the cabins in natural light. The spacious, full-beam owner’s cabin amidships has a separate staircase entrance from the saloon, providing the owner with an extra level of privacy and exclusivity. There is a further VIP stateroom forward and two twin cabins on the port and starboard side. Additionally, a twin cabin with an ensuite is located aft for crew or occasional guests. The crew has their own access to this cabin via the transom alongside the tender garage.

An owner’s paradise

The Princess S72 is perfect for a more hands-on owner who has a passion for the sea and yachting. “The design of the yacht is influenced by Princess Yachts' owner-operator design philosophy," explains Hill. “The galley is placed aft, making it the centrepiece of the social space and is accessible from both the cockpit and the saloon.”

The driving position is designed for comfort and control, allowing the owner to easily get involved with the handling of the boat.

Speed and performance

The Princess S72 is not just about luxury and design, it's built for performance. The resin-infused deep-V hull ensures efficiency and a smooth ride. "The S72 shares the same hull as the Y72, which is very proven and has been around for a number of years," says Hill.

With twin MAN V12 1,800hp engines, she can reach impressive speeds. “She was given a design speed off the drawing board of 34 to 36 knots, but she’s actually achieved a touch over 40. So she's exceeded the performance expectations of the designers.”

Her impressive performance means her handling is similar to that of a much smaller boat. “She’s very comfortable, quiet and stable off the plane," adds Hill. "She’ll stay on the plane at around 14 knots, which is very impressive."
