Just four months after her unveiling, the first 36.7-metre Ocean Alexander 37L was on the water. The quick turnaround was no coincidence, as her owners needed a yacht to suit their lifestyle and desire to spend eight months a year at sea.

The well-travelled American couple already owned a 27.43-metre Ocean Alexander 90R and the time had come to move up in size. “Having more space becomes increasingly important to us, especially as we continue to expand our adventures,” says the owner. Having traded in their 90R in 2022, the owners wanted to move up in size. The first Ocean Alexander 37L flagship, now named Dreams, gave them an additional 7 metres in length, a fifth stateroom and another 83 GT in volume. “As our boating keeps evolving, so does our family and circle of friends!” he adds.

The owners finalised the trade-in of Dreams in February 2022 with the help of Scott Robertson, MarineMax’s sales executive. “The owners wanted a yacht of around 35 metres with five staterooms to accommodate more guests. They also felt that the large main-deck master and high-spec galley are two very desirable and important features,” recalls Robertson.

The owner’s time on board their 90R had meant the family had come to know and love the Ocean Alexander brand. “By owning a Revolution Series yacht for one year, these owners were already well introduced to Ocean Alexander,” explains Dan Mundy, the firm’s head of global distribution, marketing, service and dealer development. “The sheer volume that we have excelled in offering is what attracted them in the first place,” he adds.

Spread across four spacious decks, the amenities on board Dreams offer plenty of five-star luxury hangouts for both day and night. For example, the foldout deck in the aft beach club can be expanded and used as a watersports take-off point during the day. By night, this area can transform into a personal oasis for activities such as drinks at the bar or a cosy cinema showing in the lounge.

Another multi-functional space is the open-plan main deck. Around a third of this deck is closed off and dedicated to the master suite, whereas the rest is an airy, light-filled space for entertaining and relaxing. Here, the main saloon, dining table for 10 and galley are all connected and flanked by large sliding glass doors to continue the wraparound deck. “What is most impressive about this yacht is how spacious she is, all the way from the saloon to the skylounge to the sun deck,” says Robertson.

The owners enjoy spending time with large groups on board Dreams, and so found that her innovative privacy solutions and functional living spaces are well suited to their life at sea. As the work of Ocean Alexander’s long-standing collaborator, Evan K. Marshall, the design of the 37L has been given a “true penthouse apartment feel”. Inside, there are rich materials, elegant decor and surprising details throughout. “We love the style and decor that Marshall has brought to Ocean Alexander!” says the owner. Even so, the owners took the opportunity to add some of their own customisations to the design to create their perfect yacht. “As long as it doesn’t affect the structural integrity of the yacht, we can make almost any adjustment the buyer wants,” explains Sally Doleski, Ocean Alexander’s vice president of marketing.

While Dreams was built to speculation for her debut at the 2021 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the owner added elements such as dark wood to the interior. “She was already very nicely outfitted to present the finest offering in our legacy design. Post-sale, the owner then spent considerable time adding personal touches and additional equipment to maximise their yachting lifestyle,” Mundy adds. These customisations suited the family’s extensive cruising plans from their home port, Ocean Reef Club in Florida.

“We have moved from the Midwest to Florida and decided that we didn't want to be tied to one location by buying a home,” explains the owner. “Now we can travel around Florida, spending more time in the Keys and Bahamas. While we are travelling so much, it gives me great comfort knowing that the yacht is equipped with American parts, equipment and appliances. As when repairs are needed, everything should be much easier to obtain,” the owner adds.

For these happy owners, Ocean Alexander’s flagship has more than fulfilled their requirements. With the next 5 units already under construction, these are just some of the underlying design features that are making the Ocean Alexander 37L such a tempting proposition for yacht buyers.
