The task
This year, students are asked to imagine themselves as members of a small design studio, which has recently completed a design for the renowned yacht builder, Oceanco. This company is currently working on the design of a cutting-edge, environmentally friendly, motor-sailing yacht for a client and, pleased with your studio’s previous work, has suggested to their client that your studio should create the exterior design for her yacht. But their client, an internationally-known clothes designer with a worldwide chain of fashion shops, has other ideas, having already worked with a studio who designed her shops, and she favours them for the task despite them having no experience in yacht design. Oceanco, seeing future difficulties caused by this lack of experience has persuaded their client to ask both studios for design proposals – and it’s your privilege to represent your studio in this important Design Competition. Are you up to the task of translating your client’s unusual wishes into reality?
