Interview: Luca Santella on the new BGX83 and why Bluegame was ready to go bigger

Italian shipyard Bluegame has lifted the curtain on the first hull of the 25.6-metre BGX83 at boot Düsseldorf 2026, its new flagship model and the largest yacht the brand has built to date, marking its first foray into the 24-metre-plus superyacht segment. BOAT’s Hannah Rankine catches up with the shipyard’s founder and head of product strategy, Luca Santella, on the yacht's foredeck lounge at the show.

For Bluegame, the decision to premiere such a significant new model indoors, at considerable logistical cost, was deliberate. “There are two main shows for us, the Cannes Yachting Festival and boot Düsseldorf,” explains Santella. “Obviously, it depends very much on the construction timeline, but with the BGX83 delivery at this time, we decided to go boot Düsseldorf for our unveiling. I think it’s a very good show for having a presentation, as everybody is focused on your event. It’s incredibly expensive to bring such a boat here, but I think it was worth it.”

The BGX83 builds on the foundations laid by the BGX63 and BGX73, but its increased length and volume allow the BGX philosophy to be expressed more fully than before. According to Santella, scaling up was less about chasing size and more about unlocking features that simply could not be accommodated on the smaller platforms.

“We started with the BGX73 and then we did the BGX63. Normally, in a range, you must have at least three boats,” he says. “And there are features on this model that we could not present on the other models, such as the flybridge with a helm station, the fourth cabin and bigger crew quarters. So the architecture of BGX asked for a bigger model; it was a natural step to go bigger.”

Hull number one is described by Santella as a prototype, but market response has already been decisive. Hulls two, three and four are sold and currently under construction, underscoring the strength of demand from existing owners familiar with the BGX approach.

A long-standing design partnership and owner-centric layout

The exterior design of the BGX83 comes from Zuccon International Project, continuing a long-standing collaboration that also delivered the BGX63 and BGX73. The yacht’s profile is immediately recognisable, with the series’ typical raked bow and inverted forward superstructure.

With interiors by Lissoni & Partners, the additional volume of the BGX83 is most evident aft, where the beach club becomes a defining feature of the yacht’s layout.

At water level, the BGX83 introduces an expansive, multi-layered beach club with an up-and-down hydraulic platform and a fold-down terrace on the starboard side, increasing usable beam when at anchor. This open-air zone flows directly into an aft saloon, also positioned at water level, which in turn connects to the owner’s suite.

The result is a sequence of spaces that functions as a private owner’s domain, separate from guest and crew circulation. “I was with a client during the show and when they were looking at the beach area, saloon and owner’s cabin, the wife said to her husband, ‘This is our private area’,” Santella recalls. “By placing the guests and crew forward, you separate the owner’s area, giving the owner more exclusivity.”

The master suite takes advantage of the yacht’s 6.3-metre beam, while forward accommodation includes two or three VIP cabins, depending on the chosen layout. Separate crew quarters are located in the bow.

Life on board

On the main deck, Bluegame employs an asymmetric layout with a single staircase on the starboard side, freeing up volume for a more generous dining area. This also creates space for a customisable outdoor bar and kitchen unit.

Above, the upper deck saloon is wrapped in 360-degree glazing and furnished with two large opposing sofas, offering panoramic views and a relaxed social setting.

“There are two layout options, which are quite different,” says Santella. “One is more formal with the galley down and three cabins, the other is more informal with the galley up and a fourth cabin. These two choices give two completely different ways to live on board. Then you have plenty of choices on customisation with the colour scheme, so I think our clients are quite happy about how we manage the customisation process.”

The BGX83’s hull, designed by Louis T. Codega, is paired with three Volvo Penta IPS 1200 units delivering 900hp each. This configuration gives the yacht a cruising speed of 28 knots and a maximum speed of 30 knots, while a draught of just 1.8 metres allows for access to shallow cruising grounds.

Following its debut at boot Düsseldorf, the BGX83 will be on display at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2026. To find out more information, contact the team at Bluegame.
