FLIBS preview: Five spectacular superyachts to see at the upcoming Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

27 October 2025 • Written by Hannah Rankine for Ocean Alexander

Every year, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show carries special significance for many boat brands globally, especially Taiwanese shipyard Ocean Alexander. The show has become a stage on which the brand showcases its most ambitious models and the evolution of its design philosophy. The 2025 edition promises no less. This year, the shipyard arrives with two examples of its new 35P model, the latest 30R, a fresh 28L and its flagship 37L. BOAT takes a closer look…

Ocean Alexander’s most recent series, Puro, made its world debut with the first 35P model at the 2024 Palm Beach International Boat Show. That inaugural hull stood out for its sleek, minimalist design and a purposeful embrace of European styling, marking a distinct evolution for a builder long known for appealing primarily to American tastes.

At FLIBS 2025, the brand will unveil two 35P models - the second and third hulls in the acclaimed series. Hull 2 features an elegant beach club, while Hull 3 introduces a dedicated tender garage — a first for Ocean Alexander. Beyond these distinctions, the two yachts are nearly identical in design and spirit except that Hull 2 is powered by twin MAN engines  and Hull 3 runs on twin MTU engines. Both deliver the same horsepower, though different builders and clients often have strong preferences or brand loyalties when it comes to engine selection.

The 35P spans 34.6 metres in a tri-deck configuration. The yacht is the fruit of a first-time collaboration with Italian designer Giorgio Cassetta, marrying Italian design cues with American sensibility. In one of its clever touches, the transom door is essentially invisible when closed, giving the hull a cleaner, unbroken profile.

Key design features on board include a pocket door that hides or reveals the galley, allowing either openness or privacy depending on guests' mood. The foredeck also hosts a movable sunpad that glides along tracks to cover the glass-sided Jacuzzi beneath, converting the space into a full dining area when set up with tables and bimini supports.

The upper deck interior, including the pilothouse, stretches more than 11.3 metres in length, with excellent visibility thanks to a mullion-free windscreen. Between here and the skylounge is a sliding-glass stainless steel frame door that can be darkened for privacy or nighttime navigation. Up top, the sundeck occupies 47.1 square metres, and the signature Cassetta “stairway to heaven” allows visual continuity through each of the exterior decks.

The owner’s suite is generous thanks to a 7.4-metre beam, high ceilings, large windows, heated floors and a rain-shower en suite. Down on the lower deck, guest cabins share a lobby with a minibar and fridge for easy refreshment.

The naval architecture was handled by Andrea Agrusta of NavalHEAD, applying a high-efficiency semi-planing hull with medium V-shaped sections. Its design aims to reduce spray at the bow, improve running angle, sharpen course keeping and deliver robust seakeeping qualities. Twin MAN 2,000hp engines push the yacht to a top speed of 18 knots.

Designed by Evan K. Marshall, the ninth hull of the 30R will also be present on the docks at FLIBS. The 30R was conceived as a statement of modern superyachting for a clientele with American tastes, yet still carrying a sense of global aspiration. Hull nine will feature updated interior woods, leathers and fabrics in Marshall’s “Eden Mist” palette – the lighter of the two colour options.

The skylounge is a focal point on the 30R, offering sweeping views in a climate-controlled retreat. The upper deck aft is generous and optional for a Jacuzzi installation if the owner desires. The layout accommodates five cabins, comprising a full-beam master on the main deck, plus a VIP, two doubles and two twins on the lower deck. To optimise space on the main entertaining level, the galley is located on the lower deck. The stern hosts a popular beach club with air-conditioned seating opening onto a large swim platform.

In terms of performance, the 30R reaches about 23 knots, with a cruising speed closer to 18 knots with twin MAN engines.

The 28L

The presence of the 28L at FLIBS is a reminder that Ocean Alexander still embraces its roots. The 28L model first launched a year ago, and the third hull brings incremental refinement. At 28 metres, it remains the entry point into the Legend series, which typically attracts a more traditional American clientele.

Also designed by Marshall, a clever architectural feature is the forward dining room, which can be opened or closed off to the galley via a pocket door, allowing the owner to shift from formal to casual dining as desired. Unlike earlier designs, the 28L opts for a skylounge rather than a raised pilothouse, aligning with evolving industry trends. The upper deck offers panoramic views and serves as a gateway to a capacious exterior aft deck with al fresco dining, a buffet bar and barbecue and sun loungers.

Inside, the main saloon sits below, with a bar and generous volume. In accommodation, the 28L houses eight guests across four cabins, comprising a full-beam owner’s suite amidships, a VIP in the bow, and twin cabins to port and starboard.

The 37L, which was exhibited at FLIBS 2024, returns as a standard-bearer and reminder of Ocean Alexander’s upper reach. At present, it remains the largest Ocean Alexander available, and many regard it as having the feel of a “penthouse apartment” on water.

Designed by Marshall, the 37L stretches 35.5 metres, with optional extension via the transom to 36.7 metres. The design leans into light, glass expanses, openness and generous proportions. With generous volume throughout, doors on either side of the main saloon open to side decks, erasing boundaries between interior and exterior.

The layout includes five cabins, with a split-level full-beam master suite on the main deck that connects to the en suite bathroom below. There are additional en suite guest cabins on the lower deck. There is a large galley on the main deck, plus a substantial beach club on the lower deck opening out onto the swim platform. The skylounge is separated from the bridge for privacy, and the aft deck supports L-shaped seating, a bar and sun loungers. A key selling point of the 37L is the introduction of a sundeck to the Legend line, which features a Jacuzzi perfect for relaxing and entertaining with family and friends.
