Although Olympic Marine has been a cornerstone of Greece’s marine industry since 1969, its shipyard division, Omikron Yachts, has been building the OT-60 – an award-winning sub-24-metre cruiser - since 2019. Its bigger sister, the OT-80, is a 24.3-metre designed for longer voyages and is currently under construction. Now, the yard is stepping confidently into the superyacht market - and they are no baby steps. The new Argo 54 currently in build is a striking 53.2-metre sloop that reflects a bold new chapter for the brand.
While Omikron Yachts is a relatively young shipyard, it stands on the shoulders of Olympic Marine’s decades of experience. Based in Lavrion, just half an hour from Athens, the facility boasts an impressive, recently renovated infrastructure, including a 24/7 marina with 680 berths, CNC machinery, a 350-ton travel lift and a dedicated composite studio - all internationally certified and tailored for high-performance yacht building, refit and maintenance.
It’s this vertical integration that gives Omikron its edge. Every stage, from initial concept to final launch, is handled in-house, offering flexibility, precision and complete oversight. That same ethos of autonomy and innovation runs through its current lineup of yachts.
Best known for its major rebuild of 106.5-metre Dream, which saw the hull extended by 15 metres and clinched Best Converted Yacht at the World Superyacht Awards 2019, Omikron Yachts has since gone from strength to strength. Today, the brand’s entire product portfolio follows the same ethos of “slow yachting” - in other words, efficient, eco-minded design.
Argo 54: A super-sailer for the new generation
The Argo 54 has taken shape under the expert guidance of the team at Omikron Yachts. Spearheading the project are Nikolas Dendrinos, chairman of Omikron Yachts, and Vassilis Kouvaris, project manager for the Argo 54, who are leading the in-house development team. The Argo 54’s naval architecture is the result of a collaboration between renowned Irish studio Rob Doyle Design and Juan Kouyoumdjian Yacht Design, the Spanish firm celebrated for its work on Volvo Ocean Race winners and America’s Cup contenders. The yacht’s simple, streamlined exterior styling, meanwhile, comes from acclaimed Italian designer Lorenzo Argento.
Built in aluminium, the sailing yacht is purpose-built for owners who want it all - speed, comfort and environmentally conscious cruising. Capable of reaching 30 knots under sail, the Argo 54 adopts a diesel-electric propulsion system with three adaptable cruising modes, including zero-emission Silent Mode, Hybrid Mode and a regenerative Cruising Mode that can power hotel loads using energy harvested while under sail.
At the heart of this performance is a state-of-the-art hull and high-performance sailplan, designed to maximise speed and handling. The sailplan includes a 756-square-metre mainsail, complemented by J2, J3 and J4 headsails and an R2 reacher for upwind versatility. For downwind performance, the yacht features a 308-square-metre spinnaker staysail, a code zero sail and both A2 and A3 spinnakers.
British designer Mark Whitely developed the interior styling, which is said to feature a minimalist monochrome colour palette for a calming ambience. With accommodation for 12 guests across five staterooms, generous toy storage and al fresco spaces for lounging or dining, the Argo 54 combines racing yacht performance with long-distance cruising comfort, and may just be one of the most forward-thinking sailers in its class.
OT-60: A new breed of compact cruiser
The OT-60 is where Omikron truly found its voice. Nicknamed the “sailboat without sails”, the 18.4-metre power yacht merges the efficiency of a sailboat with the comfort of a motor yacht.
Launched as the first build under the Omikron Yachts brand, the OT-60 has swept up accolades including European Powerboat of the Year (2024) and Revelation of the Year at the World Yachts Trophies. Built with carbon fibre construction and a light yet stable "Eco-Cruise" hull, it combines performance with efficiency, consuming just 1.25 litres per nautical mile. According to the shipyard, it is an ideal model for first-time buyers thanks to its easy handling, especially for island-hopping in the Mediterranean.
Designed by Lorenzo Argento with interiors by Ciarmoli Queda Studio, the OT-60 offers a “second home at sea” feel with its neutral tones, natural fabrics and leather-clad panelling. The cockpit flows seamlessly into the main saloon, thanks to consistent decking.
Below deck, the OT-60 offers a unique layout. As guests descend the stairs, they enter a double-height annex before the staterooms that houses a galley and indoor dining area. This volume is naturally illuminated through three levels of windows that stretch an impressive three and a half metres from floor to ceiling.
Owners can choose between two lower deck configurations: one with three cabins, including a full-beam master suite amidships, or another with four cabins, where the master moves to the VIP space on the port side.
On deck, the cockpit leads down to a swim platform with enough room for a tender and beach area. There’s also a bow lounge for sunbathing and L-shaped sofas in the cockpit under the hardtop for shaded relaxation.
The future of the OT-60 looks even greener. Omikron is currently working to integrate hybrid propulsion systems and LIFO lithium battery banks into the model to advance the boat’s eco credentials.
OT-80: A local explorer
Hot on the heels of the OT-60 comes its big sister, the OT-80 - a 24.3-metre evolution designed for longer voyages, greater autonomy and added onboard comfort.
Also under construction, the OT-80 adds an enclosed flybridge, separated crew areas and a variety of five-cabin arrangements to suit different owner needs. Whether you opt for a main deck master suite or convert that space into a dining area, the emphasis is on flexibility and long-range cruising.
Dubbed a “local explorer,” the OT-80 is as adept at crossing oceans as it is at island-hopping. It is a versatile yacht for those who want total assurance wherever they are in the world.
