Fast and futuristic: On board the 38-knot wallytender48 weekender

When the wallypower118, known as Galeocerdo, launched in 2002, she rewrote the rulebook with her stealth-like profile, angular glazing and futuristic stance - now one of the most recognisable yachts on the water. More than two decades on, Italian shipyard Wally continues that same rebellious DNA in the wallytender48, a compact, 14.5-metre dayboat that distils the essence of the original concept into a versatile tender or weekender designed for living closer to the sea.

While the scale is smaller, the philosophy is the same. The wallytender48 shares the wallypower’s focus on clean geometry, advanced engineering and performance-led design, but reinterprets it for a new kind of owner.

Signature Wally features

Step on board the wallytender48 via her retractable passerelle that doubles as a swim ladder, which eliminates unnecessary clutter, and this sense of openness continues in the cockpit, where the yacht’s 4.4-metre beam is expanded at anchor thanks to fold-down bulwarks. According to the Ferretti Group yard, this is the only yacht in its segment to offer this feature as standard.

With the bulwarks deployed, the swim platform becomes a generous floating terrace and social hub. Whether used as a superyacht tender or a standalone dayboat, the wallytender48 is designed to encourage barefoot living, spontaneous swims and long afternoons spent at the water’s edge.

Life on board the wallytender48

On deck, the layout prioritises conviviality and adaptability. A single-level teak deck runs from bow to stern, framed by deep bulwarks that provide a sense of security and make the wallytender48 particularly well suited to families with young children or elderly relatives.

Forward, expansive sunpads offer a prime spot for lounging underway or at anchor. Amidships, the cockpit is arranged for relaxed al fresco dining, supported by a galley unit that allows hosts to remain part of the conversation. Aft, seating with adjustable backrests can be oriented towards the dining area and galley or reconfigured to face a vast sunpad aft, allowing the space to evolve throughout the day depending on how it’s used.

Below deck, a double cabin offers a comfortable retreat for overnighters, where warm-toned teak surfaces are paired with carbon detailing, supple leather and upholstery. A shower room and clothes storage complete the setup for comfortable weekends away.

Much of the wallytender48’s appeal lies in her smart engineering. A concealed anchoring system sits beneath a flush-fitting hatch in the bow to preserve the yacht’s clean lines and can be operated at the touch of a button from the helm. The brand’s distinctive wraparound fender, now a wallytender trademark, replaces traditional bulky fenders with a solution that protects the hull while maintaining the boat’s sculptural profile.

Performance that lives up to the name

True to Wally’s heritage, performance is not an afterthought. The standard propulsion package comprises twin Volvo Penta IPS 650 engines, delivering a combined 960hp. This translates into a top speed of 38 knots and a range of 300 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 32 knots.

The deep-V hull form, developed in collaboration with Ferretti Group’s engineering department, ensures stability and confidence at speed, and “slamming” is kept to a minimum thanks to the vertical bow and automated interceptors. Meanwhile, joystick controls make close-quarters manoeuvring intuitive, whether approaching a superyacht’s stern or docking in a crowded marina.

At the helm, Wally’s signature tall seats offer excellent visibility and a commanding driving position, framed by the brand’s instantly recognisable geometric windscreen. It’s a setup that invites the owner to take the wheel rather than hand it over.
