2 October 2025 • by Dea Jusufi

Greek designer Theodoros Fotiadis has launched a new shipyard in Northern Germany, named Astra Nord. The site, which is based in the historic maritime city of Stralsund, is capable of delivering new-build projects of over 65 metres, as well as refit works on vessels up to 295 metres.

The yard has just accepted its first refit customer (the 47.2-metre Ocean Dreamwalker III) and has been working on a series of 65- to 96-metre yacht designs that will "cover the market gap that Nobiskrug left behind".

Astra Nord's facilities in Stralsund, Germany

Astra Nord intends to distinguish itself from its competitors with a comprehensive after-sales service, which Fotiadis believes is a missed market in Germany. "Whether it's routine maintenance, upgrades or technical assistance, our global network of skilled technicians and support staff are always on hand to ensure your yacht performs at its best," he added.

Facility specs

  • 97,000sqm of fully covered and heated space
  • 32,000sqm of office space
  • 24,000sqm of workshop areas
  • 300m x 110m x 75m main shed
  • 800t crane
  • 270m ship lift

Fotiadis has opted for hand-selected woods, textured fabrics and ambient light for a "timeless feel"

One of the German yard's new designs is the 78-metre Neon, which utilises a bulkhead-free platform by Lateral Naval Architects to maximise the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Floor-to-ceiling panels replace conventional barriers for 360-degree views, while retractable glass walls and fold-down terraces contribute to this dissolution of boundaries. "It's a yacht that invites you in, takes you further, and never lets you feel disconnected from the beauty around you," Fotiadis added.

Neon is available for sale with Moravia Yachting.

The Berlin-based studio is best known for its yacht concepts, including the 140-metre trimaran concept Spear and the 105-metre superyacht 5th Element.
