Marcello Maggi

President, Wider

Marcello Maggi, president of Wider, has a long track record in yachting where he has helped develop companies and founded shipyards. After studying economics and with a lifelong passion for yachting, he started his career at Italian superyacht builder CRN where he worked his way up to head the refit department and eventually assisted in the merger of CRN with the Ferretti Group in 2000.

In 2001, he co-founded the innovative ISA Shipyard, which built yachts in composite and metal in a new shipyard in Ancona. He was involved in the development and construction of some 30 yachts until he sold his shares. In 2014 he started Marcello Maggi Yachting Boutique (or MMYB), a consulting company with headquarters in Monaco, that assists clients with many facets of yachting, from project management, refits and after sales issues.

For several years, he’s had a keen interest in renewable energy and got involved with Silent Yachts, a builder of solar powered catamarans, assisting them in gaining wider recognition within the superyacht world. When Wider, a pioneer in the serial construction of superyachts with hybrid propulsion, became available he stepped in with Philip Zepter (Zepter Group) and Tiziano Giovannetti (Hopafi Holding Srl) to grow the company toward an emission-free future. His goal is to take the company 100 percent electric within the next five years.
