Carl Sorenson

Founder, The Nanz Company

Combining desires for creative vocation and self-employment, Carl co-founded The Nanz Company in 1989 with his friend, Steve Nanz. Steve and Carl started their operation on the Bowery where the two refurbished existing hardware for pre-war apartment renovations. Due to a lack of original material they began making replacement hardware for the projects, and their success in that realm prompted them to develop their own line.

Today, The Nanz Company offers over 3,000 distinct products in a vast array of finishes and variations, all manufactured in the company’s 50,000 square foot Long Island factory. Nanz maintains offices throughout the United States and in London. The company manufactures and provides hardware and plumbing for high-end homes, yachts, and luxury residential developments.

Serving for over 30 years as the company’s creative director, Carl oversees a small team of engineers and artists responsible for developing exclusive decorative and mechanical products. Through the use of hand sketches, technical drawings, three-dimensional modelling, sculpting, mock-ups and prototyping the team can create hardware for any purpose. Operating a CNC machine shop in their New York City headquarters, new product ideas can be conceived within several days. Handles, hinges, locking mechanisms and plumbing all lie within Nanz’s scope, making the company a single source for all a project’s hardware needs.
