British male supermodel David Gandy will be swapping the catwalk for the high seas as the latest recruit to Vector Martini Racing’s iRace Pro Team.

Gandy will undertake a World Endurance Record as part of Vector’s four-man crew and has already begun training under the team’s professional sailors to become a powerboat racing pilot. A self-confessed adrenaline junkie, Gandy’s love of motorsports is well known, and he recently joined fellow British model Jodie Kidd in the Mille Miglia – a prestigious 1,000-mile Italian endurance race. However, this is the first time Gandy will publicly test his mettle on the oceans.

David Gandy is the first of six celebrities to be recruited as part of Vector’s iRace Pro programme. Each of the high-profile participants will be trained as a fully qualified member of the iRace Pro Team and compete in a World Endurance Record challenge, which will be filmed as part of a television programme scheduled for international release.

“I’m thrilled to join the VMR’s Pro iRace series,” said David Gandy. “I have a real passion for speed and nothing compares to the exhilaration and experience of driving a V40R powerboat with 2,200 horsepower at your fingertips – there is no other motor sport or experience quite like it.”

“It’s fantastic to have David on board as part of our world record breaking and world championship winning team,” said Martin Crease, CEO of Vector Martini Racing. “His approach is highly motivated and professional. His experience and involvement will bring a whole new lifestyle dynamic to our unique programme. We are both honoured and proud to be working with him.”

This move will see Gandy join a string of celebrities on yachts, including fellow British model Oliver Cheshire, who joined Team Hugo Boss for the Artemis Challenge during Cowes Week 2015.
